Question about Apple iPod touch
My MP4 player is malfunctioning. None of my computers will recognize it. When I plug it in, my computer tells me unknown device malfunctioning. I bought 4 of them (one for each kid for Christmas) and two of them don't work. What can i do? Not sure I can get my money back.
First of all, if you are attempting to plug this device in to the frontusb port or to a usb hub, try plugging it directly in to one of theback usb plugs of your computer as this is going to be a true "usb 2.0"port. That is, of course, if your motherboard suports USB 2.0. As withmost new devices, they are all usb 2.0 and only some will be usb 1.1(the older version) compatible. As well, some usb players will havesoftware that is not necessarily required to "see the unit" on theother hand, some do have device drivers that are required (as in thecase of the toshiba and creative units), in order to utilize the builtin software functions.
One other thing you can check for is the device manager (right click onMY COMPUTER and select PROPERTIES then click on HARDWARE tab andfinally DEVICE MANAGER) Here you should see no "yellow" exclammationpoints which would be telling you of a device conflict. If youcurrently have your unit plugged in, you may notice the "unknowndevice" which would be your unit. By clicking on any item that has theexclamation and REMOVING it. Removing all devices with conflicts andthen clicking on REFRESH (search for new devices) it should once againattempt to install the device. If you are still having troubles, Iwould be visiting the manufacturers website and reading any FREQUENTYASKED QUESTIONS (faq's) regarding the device as well there are quiteoften updated device drivers available from the site in which you mayor may not require.
