My Oreck XL Table top Air Purifier also turns off and on by itself with about a 1/2 delay between turning off and turning back on. I noticed this only because I use the nightlight setting and I had my living room lights off when the light went out. I cleaned the cell which helped, for about 2 hours, then the problem started again. I decided to ignore the power blinks but the time between turn-off and turn on gradulally increased to 3 or 4 seconds and then the high speed would come on with both the low and high speed indicator lights on simultaneously. I cleaned the cell again although had had done so a couple of days previously and cleaned the interior of the cabinet. No luck. All of this started happening after the 3rd cleaning of the Truman Cell. I was meticulous in cleaning and even used Oreck's very expensive cleaning spray foam. I contacted Oreck who told me no customer had reported this problem previously. They asked me to return the air cleaner for repair and provided a free shipping label. The replacement worked fine and I have cleaned the Truman cell 3 times and now the replacement just started turning off and on.

I have the exact same problem that started just a few days ago. I tried everything and cleaned even though the red light didn't say to clean the cells. I went as far as to unplug almost everything (including this computer) and leave only the Oreck plugged, but that didn't help either. It's on and off phase is starting to **** me off.

SOURCE: Oreck Air Purifier. Need to take it apart to clean the collection

i just used a butter knife wrapped in a Clorox wipe... being careful not to have the metal show so that it will scrape. when the wipe comes out black, rotate the wipe so that it will be able to clean. I used 5 wipes rotating. I could not figure out how to open the thing either so this was my solution.

SOURCE: how to remove the air cell

  1. Turn off unit and unplug it
  2. Along the front edge there should be a thumbscrew, loosen until it is free
  3. Lift front cover from left edge
  4. Pull cell from unit
  5. remove screen from cell, it slides out from the top of the cell
  6. remove odor/ozone absorber, it is clipped into the back edge of the cell
You do not need to be afraid to set the unit on it's back or side, just make certain not to drop it.

I need instruction on how to clean my Oreck XL.

Unplug the unit before cleaning. Wipe off the cabinet with a soft cloth and a mild non-abrasive cleanser.

To clean the electronic collector, loosen the front grill retainer screw then press in the lock and remove the grill. Pull out the collector by the tabs on the sides using both hands. Snap off the charcoal filter from the back of the collector. Then slide off the pre-filter. Spray the pre-filter and the collector with the Oreck Assail-a-Cell cleanser and then let stand for a few minutes before rinsing with water. Otherwise, soak the pre-filter and the collector in warm water (bathtub or sink) with mild dish detergent. Soak for 2-3 hours. Rinse well.

Then allow the parts to dry for completely before reassembling the air purifier. Air dry only.

Pictures to go with the Oreck XL Professional Air Purifier cleaning directions are in the manual. It is available here: http://www.oreck.com/PUG/3323-8889-Rev-K-AIR8.pdf . See page 5.

I hope this helps.

How to remove air filter for cleaning

If you are talking about the metal wheel inside, the only way I have been able to clean it completely is to turn it over, unscrew all the screws, carefully lift it apart, and then you can lift the wheel out. But after you clean it, make sure its completely dry . I usually leave it out in the sun so it drys completely. Then while its out, you can either take a can of the air, like you use to clean computers, or if you have a vac that you can blow air from, or just simply use a soft cloth, brush, whatever you have that can clean it. `its a pain to do, because they def don't mention about how dirty it gets inside there, but honestly I love my purifiers so much, even though its a pain to do, I do it anyway! hope this helps you out alittle!!!

How do I clean the Oreck Air 7

Hi There,

Here's how you can clean the machine, and I have copied the link to the owners manual below for your convenience.

Cleaning
The Cabinet
You can clean the air purifier cabinet with mild, non-abrasive cleanser and a
soft cloth. IMPORTANT: Unplug the unit from its electrical power source.
Do not spray cleansers or furniture polish into the louver or grill areas.

Collector Cell
Indicator light is green under normal operation and flashes red
when the cell requires cleaning. To clean, proceed as follows:
The red "WASH CELL" light will flash or illuminate when it is
time to clean your cell. However, it is recommended that every four to
eight weeks or if snapping sounds become frequent, clean your
electronic air purifier. Your electronic air purifier is still filtering the air
when the red light illuminates. Cleaning your electronic air purifier is a
snap too... and a must for efficient operation.
1. Turn the unit off and unplug it from the electric power source. If wall
mounted, remove unit from wall.
2. Remove front grill by unscrewing the retainer screw under the grill on
the cabinet bottom. (fig. 1)

3. Pull the cell out of the cabinet by using the two small handles on the
front of the cell. (fig. 2)

4. Snap off the charcoal odor absorber from the back of the cell. Change
as necessary for continued odor removal. (fig. 3)
5. Slide off pre-filter. This can be cleaned with the cell and reused. (fig. 4)
NOTE: Handle the electronic cell with care. Damaged metal plates
and/or broken wires will cause the air purifier to malfunction. (Do
not wash charcoal odor absorber; it is disposable.)
Cleaning with Assail-A-Cell® Cell Cleaner:
6. Using Assail-A-Cell® Cleaner, thoroughly saturate the cell and prefilter.
Be sure to spray between each cell plate and cover every
surface. Allow product to soak for a few minutes, not allowing it to dry.
Rinse thoroughly with water. For extremely heavy deposits, repeat the
process.
IMPORTANT: Dry the collection cell thoroughly outside of the
air purifier before reinstalling it into the air purifier. Ensure
that all areas including corners and areas that may trap
water are dry before reinstalling into the air purifier. DO NOT
place a wet or damp collection cell in the air purifiereff1848.jpg

Take it into an Oreck dealer, first they'll try to sell you a new one, don't buy it. Then they will happily help you out with whatever parts you may need.
