Question about Gateway 835GM (835GH) PC Desktop
Gateway 835GM windows xp professional, service pack 3
Pentium D 820 CPU 2.80 GHz
Intel 945G chipset
Problem: Add memory, and replace the DVD/CD drives.
512 MB [CHAN A DIMM; 0 form factor: DIMM unknown memory type]
512 MB [CHAN B DIMM; 0 form factor: DIMM unknown memory type]
Please advise if I need to add 512 MB x 2, or if I can add 1 GB x 2, PC will hold up to 4 GB. I need to know the correct type of memory to add.
I also want to add two new DVD/CD player/recorders, one of the units with litescribe
Will new drives fit into my gateway case, I don't care what color they are, but they should correctly fit the case.
Can anyone recommend 2 DVD/CD one a burner with litescribe and the other a player or burner.
Thank you for your attention to my problem,
PS: Any recommendations as where to buy this equipment online would be appreciated.
As far as the memory in your system goes, each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-8500, DDR2 PC2-5300, or DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot. You can add two 1GB modules to your present configuration if you choose.
For complete info go to: Crucial for Gateway 835GM
You can also go to www.crucial.com and run their scan feature. It's safe and works well.
Note that you should install memory in matched pairs, so if you should buy 2 more 512MB modules, make sure they are the same kind/type. Also realize that should you upgrade to 4GB of RAM, unless you have a 64-bit OS, it may not recognize all 4GB.
As for the drives, any "big box" electronics store will have the drives you need/want. Even Wal-Mart has a decent selection of internal drives. The drives should work with no problem. Gateway and other companies put fancy bezels on the front, but they have buttons and hinged doors that will allow most drives to be used. One thing you need to make sure of is what type of drive you need. That is, what type of controller is used, either IDE or the newer SATA. If you are not sure, comment back and i will try to research it further.
