Ok so this is what happened when i first got it i connected it too my laptp to see if i could download itbut i needed the software so i downloaded it.. but when i opened up my windows media player to try to add songs it wouldnt let me it would apppear on the top right corner what do u thinnk can be the problem? would it be the laptop. cord? mp3?

when you connect it to the computer, go to "my computer" and look for it as a 'device' like the harddrive on your computer would appear (Local Disc (C:) ) and open it like a regular folder - you may have to right click and select "explore" - this should show you the available files on the device and allow you to select the option of putting your music in the music folder itself.
1.download the appropriate firmware from here2.press and hold reset button for 2 seconds 3.run the firmware updater 4.press and hold "volume -" button while connecting to system. 5.the updater will detect the player and it will upgrade the firmware.
I assume from your description that either you are running a version of Windows older than XP/2000 or you need a special driver. Here is a link for the driver(s) you will need. Just enter your model number and select your version of Windows. Download and run the file and you should be up and running shortly.
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
THEN, do the "Repair" in the Philips Device Manager
usb doesnt have any drivers
drivers are for the devices which are connected if the comptuer is not responding to the device there might me various issue
check if any other device wd usb port is working or not
then check the auto play optin
check weather the device is detected in device manger or not
then decide wt is wqrong if any other device is being detected by the compter ther will be trouble wd teh mp3 other wise computer
