Question about Boating
At 4,000 RPMs the motor runs rough and cannot get it above 3,000 RPMs. Light and alarm comes on the panel and then cannot run above 3,000 RPMs.
Not knowing what year it is...Light and alarm? Reason: overheat low oil etc. check water flow..water pump. The motor is most likily going into S.L.O.W mode. its a fail safe system. Last possibile reason ..CDI box and or stator.. pull plugs check compression...should be 120-150 lbs.

Unplug the heat sensor and try it.

I had the same problem with a Johnson 150, which has the same power block as the 175. I had this rough running problem for a couple of years. The solution was to replace the CDI pack, the fuel bulb and all of the fuel lines. My engine now runs like a dream. The shop charged me $700 for this work and parts.
