Question about Sony KV-35S45 35" TV

Picture flickers off then comes back

The tv works however the picture dissapears after about 15 seconds, flickers off but comes right back immediately then about 15 seconds later does the same thing. I opened up the back and vacuumed lots of dust bunnies, cant see any visible signs of a faulty component. Any ideas as to what component or where I should be looking.

Re: picture flickers off then comes back

I have studied the internet with your problem for about 5 hours and find that 75% vote for replacement rather than repair, but it can be fixed for some time and some for quite some time. I am choosing to replace after I find someone who can walk me through the on-screen diagnosis, (just for fun). Jimmy Wayne

My 42inch plasma bush tv made a load bang noise as i was watching it yesterday. The picture immediately dissapeared, but the sound stayed.

That sounds like the plasma power supply section has stopped working.
Replacement module probably. Fairly expensive, maybe, unless there are some refurbished panels out there.
Hope that helps.

My CRT TV displays a single horizontal white line across the screen. It will flicker and try to display the picture. If you smack it you'll get a quick picture then back to a line. After about 10-15...

The single line means that the vertical deflection doesn't work. And since it is working when you kick the tv or has warmed it's clearly a bad connection - open the case and reseat the wires going to the tube coil.

Just a line on the screen?

Your tv has a failure in the vertical circuit. Most likley since you explained that it was coming in and out you could fix it by Resoldering the connections on the vertical output IC. Replacing the vertical output IC would be your next step after this.

Unknown model of panasonic tv problem with picture

Depending on age, it sounds as if picture tube has an intermintent short in the red gun. tap on the center of the screen to see if it goes away, if it does,I would strongly say that the tube is gone; but you could try openning it and check if the crt board is mounted on the tube's neck properly. do this at your own risk since you might get a shock if not familiar on how to handle tv's.

Picture Would Come In and Out, Now Not at All

It seems as though from your description it is just the brightness changing. The Cathode Ray Tube has three electron guns at the back end. These are for green, blue, and red. Each gun has a cathode and a grid. Nearly all control the brightness by having the grids tied to a variable voltage. And nearly all control the colour and luminance by an amplifier connected to each cathode. As you do not say the colours change the the amlifiers are OK. I would suggest the voltage to the grids ( or cathodes in some), is unstable due to a bad connection or a dry joint, or a faulty resistor in that part of the circuit. Very old sets without remote control used a potentiometer to vary the brightness. A voltmeter is all that is needed. When the picture goes off try holding the increase brightness for some time, to see if it reappears.
