Did the Durango have the Infinity sound system? If so, there is a separate amplifier that is probably not being activated. Look for a blue or blue/white wire on the harness adapter and connect it to the Pioneer's blue/white wire. If it does not have blue/white, use the solid blue one.
The best advise I can give and the worst mistake you can make while trying to install a new head unit into a car is DO NOT CUT THE STOCK HARNESS.
New head units come with bare harness with just wire ends, so you may think you need to cut off the harness on the car to wire it in.
This is the worst thing you can do. As a matter of fact, it is a bad Idea to cut any harness for anything in your car as they make wiring harness adapters to fit every thing in your car.
Before you install your head unit, go to Best Buy, or any car audio place, or on the internet and get a harness to suit the install. For instance if you have a pioneer head unit, and a 2007 Honda, you want a pioneer to 07 Honda wiring harness. This will allow your head unit to connect right into the stock wiring harness.
The following may help you. The first is for the vehicle the second for the stereo. Good Luck. The Honda Civic requires a dash adaptor you need this wiring harness to install the stereo it dont seem a dash adaptor is required for the 94 model you use the cage/sleeve to install the sony in your car you will also need this removal tool and either wire nuts, heat shrink tubing, crimp caps and crimp tool or the common solder and wrap in electrical tape method to connect the wiring harness for the honda to the wiring harness for the stereo
very simple on the back of the deck you will have a wire harness Yellow = constant power supply Red = Switch power supply Black = Ground White = left front speaker + White /Black stripe = Left Front speaker - Grey = right front speaker + Grey /Black Stripe = right front speaker - Green = left rear speaker + Green w/ black stripe = left rear speaker - Purple = right rear speaker + purple w/ black stripe = right rear speaker -
wires for the honda are,
Left Front (+)
Left Front (-)
Right Front (+)
Right Front (-)
6" x 9" Rear Deck
Left Rear (+)
Left Rear (-)
Right Rear (+)
Right Rear (-)
I don't know what pins are what on the METRA harness, but the wires coming from the back of the Pioneer unit should be:
black ground red accessory (KEY) yellow memory constant power, blue is remote, orange is for the dimmer, green with black is left rear neg.and green is positive, violet black is right rear negative and violet is positive, white is left front positive and white with black is negative, gray black is right front negative and gray is positive.
If you don't have the pioneer harness (and so these wire colors dont' mean much to you) just message back here, and I'll map those wire colors to pin positions on the back of the unit.
You need to get an installation kit that also has the universal wiring harness to connect to the factory harness in the car. That way you only need to match the wire colors of the Pioneer harness to the wire colors of the universal harness and made good connections and insulate those connections. Then the Pioneer harness plugs into the Pioneer radio and the universal harness plugs into the factory harness in the car.
