Their is a watch battery. i actually did open up that same laptop. you need to open one of the doors on the bottom (cant tell you witch one at the moment) and the watch battery is under there. you need to remove that battery (probably cr23## or something) for they say 15 mins. longer wont hurt. that battery is in there you just need to find it. it will clear the cmos.

[inspiron only!]
If you can not get this to work you can call this number (800)624-9896. that is dells tech support

they will request a service tag and express service code. which will be found on the bottom of the laptop.
if you arent the original owner you can have the registration of the laptop switced. but you will need to register as the new owner you can do this by filling out the Transfer of Ownership from Dell's web site.

i know its not quick, but it will be easy.

Good luck

follow the steps below to reset the password:
1. Power off the computer and make sure that it is unplugged.
2. Open up your computers case.
3. Find a circular, silver metallic object on the motherboard. This is the CMOS battery
4. CAREFULLY remove the CMOS battery and leave it out for about 120 seconds.

My 1150 dell inspiron laptop wont let me pass the bios screen this is my second one that has just out of nothing password protected just decided to all of the sudden have a admin or bios password ...

Disconnect the battery, unplug it, then open it up. There should be a small round battery called the CMOS battery somewhere in there. Pull that out. Then plug your computer in and boot it up without the CMOS battery. It should say password disabled. Turn it off, disconnect it, put it back together, and you're good to go.

DELL Latitude D400 - what are the series of (blinking) icons?

sometimes this indicate a fault with memory or the system itsef. Before you begin you will have to remove the battery and the ac adapter.Remove the memory modules .Replace the battery and the ac adapter without the memory.Power it on if it comes on and beep several times then the memory is bad.If not remove the battery and the ac once again.Press and hold the power button for twenty seconds to clear the nonvol memory.Replace the memory the battery and the ac adapter. If still no go remove all the same items along with the hard drive and cd rom,Insert the battery and the ac adapter try again. If you hear a beep this time replace the battery(remember whenever you install to remove power). If nothing works and you none of the desired results you will have to replace the motherboard.

Dell Inspiron 1150 - Wont boot & nothing on screen ??

The fans on this unit are thermostatically controlled and only turn on when the predefined processor temperature is reached, so upon turning the unit on It will spin up too full speed and then seem to shut down until it is needed.
If you are getting no beep tones and since you have already tested your memory, I am forced to assume that either your processor has retired or your cmos is wrong, Since you sound like you have already opened the unit then locate the clear cmos jumper/switch on the board and clear your cmos which will reset to defaults.....if you still have the same problem then I reccomend trying a different processor.

Dell inspron 8100 laptap with windows xp

Try booting with your windows xp installation cd in the drive. See if it will give you a repair or restore option when doing this. If it does not then it's possible your computer has a virus. You can check this by booting up with your anti virus cd in the drive and let it do a system scan. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
