Kenwood kr 5050 volume stuck on high cant change

These days the circuit of the volume control is controlled by an IC in modern amps. These can go faulty preventing adjustment of the sound by the volume control. The only cure is to find the IC and replace it. You can start in the area where the volume control is located. If it's not mounted direct on the PC board, follow the connections to the board. Hopefully the board might have writing on it to indicate the area where the faulty IC is.

Sa-ht545 error code f61- comes up upon statrting

F61 just equal 'power fault'
Generally a fault with either audio power amp ic (IC 501) or power supply ic IC 502.

As both said ICs get very got first remove bottom steel grill and with the power off and capacitors drained (shorted together with a low ohms resistor or leave unit powered down for a few hours) resolder the ICs legs if there are any signs of cracks aka dry solder joints.
Hope that helps.......

My subwoofer not palying any sound

You blew something on the power board in the amp. Check your output transistors and your low ohm resistors.

Gets warm, loud pop and then no sound

Hi,

You're ouput IC was blown, this is caused by an overload. Continuous running the unit in high volume produced more heat to the output IC and when exceed the peak temperature allowed it will blew. This IC is heat-sinked in the board. Also check its resistor in line with the power supply for open.

Hope it may help you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

My kenwood a97 hi fi amp has gone into protect mode a resistor is broken how do i get a diagram to identify the type i need

in my a-97 amplifier was the chip stk350-030 broken. I replaced it and it works again. The stk350-030 you'll find in the middle. Open the hood and cut the bottom (sound weird but its true)

Kenwood KR-4010 (late 70's vintage) with signal to IF amp but no output

Don't bypass the relay contacts. They serve to disconnect the amp stages from the speaker if a DC condition is present, and in doing that, save your speakers form damage. Check for a DC offset condition on the junction of the emmitter stabilizer resistors to the STK0040 on each channel. They will be 0.47 ohm power resistors(2 per STK) connected to pins 3 and 8 of the STK. Anything substantially greater that 100mv here generally indicates a blown STK. Don't bother to change both, but just the one that is faulty. Another common problem for this age of amp. The high silver content in the legs of the transistors allows for "growth" between legs and internal connections of the transistor. Check for "black death" on the legs of transistors driving the STK. . . I tend to replace them if in doubt. If you need expert advice, comment me back. I am an audio specialist.
