There should be a small circular opening with a cap inside.it looks like a coin should fit in it and you need to turn the usually silver in color cap to get to the battery.....what type of batteries do you use because i also have an x-9 and i don't know what to get!!

Maggie,

Bottom cover, use a coin to un-screw the battery cover.

Film Advance levar wont work. Milnolta x-700

The Minolta X-series (X-300/370, X-570, X-700) were known for this issue. Two capacitors under the top and bottom covers go bad over time. They prevent the shutter from releasing, so you cannot wind to re-**** the shutter. If you're handy at these things, you can buy the caps, remove the covers, solder in the new caps, and be fine. This issue is well known and you can find instructions on the web. Or you can send it in for repair. Garry's Camera repair in Niles,ILL will do it cheaply at $58 incl return postage. Look him up on the web.

My pics come out half black when I use the X-370 flash

motley45

this happens when the shutter speed is not correct. set the speed to 1/60 sec.
if the X-370 flash is new it may not be compatible with your camera. with the flash turned on it should set the shutter speed automatically to either 1/60sec or 1/125sec. looking in the finder the shutter speed should not change to various amounts of light. if the shutter speed changes with the flash turned on it is not dedicated to your camera.
