Question about Acer Aspire 5630 Notebook

Mouse Frozen in Center Screen

My cat sat on my laptop and put my computer into standby mode. I undid it and then I had to reboot my computer because the computer was running really slow.

At reboot the mouse was frozen in the middle of the screen and it was after a second reboot. I am wondering if there is a keystroke that was pressed and maybe it can be undone?

It's a synaptic mousepad built into a Toshiba Windows Vista.

The" fn" and another key might have been pressed. If theres any keys which have something that looks like a touchpad or a finger or a finger on a touchpad on them, and if restarting doesn't work, try pressing fn and that button.

restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer

Reboot the computer As the computer is booting repeatadly press the F8 key as the computer is booting

If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen.

I have an acer aspire using xp. cursor is frozen in the center of screen. Pad doesnt work. Reset but didn't change anything. Did fn-f7 didn't change anything. I can only get around using my tab key...

Plug in a USB mouse to give you some mouse functionality. Then go HERE (http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers) and search for your specific laptop model and try to see if they have a touchpad driver for your model.

Also you can go to the device manager in Windows (Right Click my computer and choose Manage)
find the touchpad driver in the list, right click and uninstall. Then reboot your computer and have Windows reinstall using plug and play (it will do this automatically)

Good Luck.

Laptop Screen Turns Black

I assume you turned off and restarted the computer and its still dark but you can see what is on the screen. If that is the case then your backlight or lcd inverter has gone out and needs to be replaced. Its better if its the inverter as they are typically cheper than the lcd.

If you find this helpful please rate it.

Thanks

Frozen Laptop

Can you use the keyboard? If you can then the mouse software is damaged. If you cannot use the keyboard then boot to safe mode. If safe mode is frozen then the problem is hardware.

Acer laptop

reboot and go to safe mode with networking

download malware bytes from www.malwarebytes.org

install it and update it and run it and then remove the infections after that reboot to normal mode.

that should fix it if it is a virus problem (thats what i am thinking).

if not then maybe its the mouse that needs to be replaced

cheers
