Question about Compaq Presario X1000 Notebook

1 Answer

I am trying to install a new WD Scorpio Blue hard drive on my Compaq presario x1000. The computer is not recognizing the drive (it says none installed). When I insert the installation CD it gives me a disk error and doesn't boot. How can I install the hard drive and then install the Operating system?

I would first make sure that your laptop can actually handle the HDD's capacity, and the interface, then go into yout BIOS and make sure any switches that need to be hit are in fact set properly. First make sure that it is actually powering up. Regardless of what's going on, if the jumper settings are correct your motherboard should notify you that there is a proper conection in the bois display. If you don't see this, make sure that it is actually powering up, and that the jumper pin(s) are positioned correctly.

Your drive is probably toast. Back up early and back up often. If you reformat you will lose everything. This sounds crazy, but please bear with me. Remove the drive and place it in your freezer and get it as cold as possible. A deep freeze is best. Let it sit overnight. Be prepared to reinstall it and fire up the laptop as quickly as possible. You may get it to fire up and boot properly. If so, have a brand new drive that you can clone. Clone the new drive and replace the old one. It is no good. note: After you replace the drive, you might get away with a reformat and use it as an additional storage drive, but it will always be suspect. don't store anything you want to see again. Backup, backup, backup!!!

My compaq presario x-1000 hard drive light and dvd rom light flashes. Won't boot up.

Try disconnecting the harddrive from the case and then place it back in. if that doesn't help you may have a faulty drive, hows warranty? Compaq / HP would fix it for you free if you still have warranty.

let me know.

Thanks,
Ekse

I have a compaq presario x1000 that wont let me get past the logo. It was working fine one day, but then I shut it down. The next morning I booted it up it the computer never went past the Compaq logo.

It is likely that the hard drive is bad or a memory issue. I would start by removing the hard drive and see if it goes past the compaq screen. If it does then you know what is wrong. If not message me and will walk you through the next step

N600c's bios can't support 48-bit lba?

It depends what you want to use the laptop for but Windows XP SP2 (Disk needs Service Pack integrated), Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PC's and Windows Vista and Windows 7 will correctly address a hard drive within a machine that has the 137gb 48bit LBA problem.
