The external volume control "the one that spins sideways" won't stop working, when i turn the volume slightly up it keeps turning up and the same for down, it just keeps going in either direction. I would just like to know how to turn the control off

Control volume on external speaker system

There is no control for this in the TV. You must do it with the volume control of the external amp.

Audio will play on internal speakers only

Are you plugging the external speakers into the right port? Try plugging them into the Headphone port if there is no external speaker port. Make sure you have the external speakers turned on and the volume turned up. Also make sure you have the software in the computer to have the volume turned up and not muted. Check the audio sound properties and make sure the volume is turned up and not on mute.

Click Start/Control Panel then look for Audio or Sound and check the volume.

You can also click the megaphone at the bottom right near the time to adjust the volume and check for mute.

Can't find the hands free speaker button

In an increasingly hands-free world, the external speaker feature of cell phones has increased the usability of cell phonesmag-glass_10x10.gif in the car, public transportation and at work. The volume controls on the external speaker controls can be somewhat difficult to find and manipulate.
  1. Step 1 Make sure the speaker setting is actually on. If the speaker is turned to off, the volume you hear will be coming from the earpiece and will be very low indeed. Sometimes there is a button on a cellphone which you can simply press and hold to activate the speaker function. You will notice a difference immediately.
  2. Step 2 Check to see if you have external volume controls. On some models, there is a button or two buttons that adjust the volume of both the handset and the speaker volume. If you have these buttons, use them to adjust these controls while on calls. Remember that adjusting the speaker volume will subsequently adjust the handset volume once you've turned off the speaker mode.
  3. Step 3 Access the sound controls in your phone. If your phone does not have external speaker control, it can be accessed by adjusting the controls saved on your phone. Also, the main settings can be controlled even if you do have external controls. Phones are different, but in your menu of options, choose sound and sound controls. This should give you options for ring volume, alarm volume and handset volume.
  4. Step 4 FInd volume controls for all settings. If you wish yo have multiple settings for each function---alarm, calls and speaker---you should be able to adjust these accordingly. Search through the control options until you've found speaker controls. Choose the setting you desire and save the settings.
  5. Step 5 Using the main volume as a foundation, use the external controls (if applicable) to adjust the levels.

Volume

you might want to look into one of two options... either an external sound card, or a keyboard that has mltimedia buttons on it.

If you go with the former, the Audigy 2 NX external sound card might be want you are looking for. It's small and has volume controls right on the top. Granted, it is overkill if you just want simple volume control. However, if you don't have a high-end sound card already, it could be a nice addition to your desk..?

It has lost partially the mechanical connection between the volume control knob and the volume control pot.

The knob could be "stripped". A drop of a slightly resilient glue should do the trick. Do not use rigid adhesives, as this will prevent future service to this area of your receiver....accordianman
