Question about Sharp DV-NC80 DVD Player/VCR

Auto Initilizing of disk unwanted

When we put a disk in it goes straight into initialize the disk which therefor sets up the recording and finalizing in VR mode, which must be default of the player. I dont want it to record, inilialize or finalize in this mode. By doing so it makes the disks unplayable in other players and my computer.
Can I change the mode on this model LG (RC299) Ive read the manual thru and thru and they have some imdemnity at the front saying its not their problem if disks recorded on this machine dont play in other dvd players. Is it possibly the disks Im using ( they are cheapies) but they are DVD -R are the problem? Heellllp!!! I spent way too much money on this very average machine, this should be a function that is compulsary. Thanking anyone in advance with some assistance..

My apoligies... it was that some disks hadnt been finalized, it just so happened that the the three I stuck in the player hadn't been finalized. Big coincidence that i chose those particular three. But its all good now.. the other player plays them... stoked.

I burn dvd -r and dvd+r and it will not play on it

It is possible that the disks are not finalized. You may need to configure it to auto finalize, which is off by default. It would be impossible to have more than one title on a disk if you always auto finalized. Check your manual, and finalize your disks. Many times marginal disks will play OK in the unit they were recorded on, but not so well in other players. The media (disks) could be the problem as well. On a side note, the DR410 will NOT burn DL (dual layer) disks. I hope this helps and good luck.

Finalizing

Use a name-brand DVD, such as HP, Verbatim, etc. and make sure it is a DVD+R or DVD-RW/-R disk only.
It is most likely that the DVD you are using is not compatible.
The disk is still usable, but you can only read it on that player.

Dvd recorder

Hi Nickstart, start checking if the problem is related with the kind of Disk and test on different brands, disk types.
Even if a recorder is supposed to work fine on both +R, -R etc. , often you find out, that due to error correction methor, a device worksd well on one or the other type.

Your DVD supports the following DVDs -R, -RW, -RAM, all -R disks are supported both on 3'' and 5''.
On +R it just writes regular DVD +R, DVD +RW and mini DVD +R are not listed in DVD specs, therefore are not supported on writing.
When your unit records DVD +R it changes the format to DVD-V, The usint does not support DVD+RV.

I assume it works better with -R

I often get troubles with many DVD low price brands, try testing some good ones like Verbatim, TDK, Sony , Philips etc.

See also the manual here, at page 6 and 7 it also says: "Play may be impossible on some DVD-RW (DVD Video Recording format), +RW, CD-R or CD-RW discs due to the condition of the
recording."

Hope this had been helpful, test both a good brand DVD-R and a Good brand DVD+R.
If it still has problems when finalizing the CD, then it can be the usual lens problem, Or the DVD you are writing is too big in size and your player has problem on the final phase of DVD writing. If Data nearly takes all the 4.7 Gb allowed, there won't be enough space to finalize the DVD.

Finalizing

-R and +R auto-finalize, only +RW and -RW require manual finalization - if the option is no longer available, it is because the discs are already considered finalized by the player. If the disc edit option is greyed out, and you cannot play the discs in another player, then the recorder will need to be replaced b/c it is consistently producing bad recordings. Try unplugging and replugging the recorder once just to be sure it isn't a temporary problem.

After recording a one hour episode, won't recognize the dvd.

Try inserting your DVD media into the PC and doing a 'quick format'. The LG is not seeing what it considers to be media that it can use. It is not seeing that you have inserted recordable media. Sometimes you can reformat the DVD or do a quick media erase, and the LG can then put on its blank "squares" that is uses for its menu selection. I think that it what it does when it 'initializes' a new media.
