I am trying to install the Zoom H4 with Cubase LE4 into my Windows
2003; Pentium 4, CPU 1.80 GHz, 1.79 GHz, 1 GB of RAM. I get as far as
downloading the H4 software and opening it. The computer will not read
the DVD because I have a CD.

The H4 has a problem with the inside back circuit board disconnecting from the main board. For that you have to take it apart.
Pretty easy for anyone technically inclined. If I remember, 4 screws.
Carefully, of course. Inside you will find the back board (where the power and audio inputs are) unplugged from the main board.
Plug back in, and put some kind of piece of rubber or even cardboard (I did that) retainer to put pressure on and avoid this happening again.
It is a design problem, I had to find out myself.
Hope this helps, please let me know...
Hello ! Actually what you do is download the latest firmware from the ZOOM page. Find HANDY H4 (you can Google that) and go to the Download tab. Follow all instructions. Be sure to have new batteries or be plugged in to AC while you reset. I've done it on my H4(I have 2) and H4n and it worked fine. Be patient, it takes a while once you start. Good luck !!
Do you havce the manual to the H4? If not, I will provide you with a link to the PDF manual online. In thoroughly scanning thfe manual, there is no general reset function (in the manual, that is). It would be advised to call Zoom (who are very easy to work with) and ask them if there is a factory reset procedure which is not in the manual.
The manual for the H4 is very comprehensive, and there are default settings for many areas of the recorder. You could use this manual to reset your adjustments manually.
