EMachine T1742, T2862 & T2958 Bad Power supply, bad mootherboards

This seems to be a common problem with eMachines. The power supplies I can replace, but I would like to repair the motherboards. I would like to obtain schematics for Trigem Imperial- GL, and Intel D845GVSR motherboards and troubleshooting guide if available. I replaced the visualable bad capicators on the D845GVSR motherboard with no joy. HELP!!!

I agree with Ekse. Replacing caps is a waste of time...what's to say that the damaged caps didn't cause other damage to the motherboard. Sure, you can save a little money but as you've already found out just replacing the caps don't always work.

I'll give you my honest opinion about this:

The motherboard which has these issues is faulty from the factory they will all fail eventually, so you are trying to repair a product that will fail again. You would save money and time to move to another motherboard.

How to take pictures off dead emachine

The hard drive must still be working to get the pictures off. The best thing to do is remove the hard drive from the machine and use either an external USB type case to mount the drive into so you can use another computer to explore the drive or there is a tool that just plugs on to the drive with a USB cable and power supply built in that will serve the same purpose. You must get the appropriate type to match the drive type which could be either IDE or SATA. SATA drives use the small cable and IDE use the wide ribbon. If the hard drive is not working, you would have to get specialized and expensive company to retrieve the data from the drive.

How can you check a computer power supply. (Emachines T1742) Shouldn't you be able to do that with a volt/amp meter? Do you have to short two connector pins to simulate the computer on-off switch?

In order to turn it on if the motherboard wont do it yes, you have to short out the green and a black wire for it to turn on. Volt meter is handy to check for proper voltages: 12v, 5v, 3.3v, also should be test when the computer is under full load. It is also recommened to check for bad capictors on all computer compentents including the power supply. Usually on store bought computers the power supply starts to give out, and the caps buldge, and if its left unfixed it causes caps in other places to go out. If there are caps bulding on the power supply and/or other stuff, buy new capictors of the same voltage and same or slightly higher UF rating, I recommend Rubycon or Nichon from badcaps.net. Hope this helped.

My emachine T2958 would not boot. the fans run but no bois nothing. i realise on the mother board alight is on by the letter F.Is it the motherboard ? help please

A good way to tell is disconnect your hard drive's, & CD/DVD ROM's power & data cable. Try to boot.

If you get the same results then you can try & remove any PCI cards from the board, remove your ram stick. Try to boot. If you get an error beep because you are missing ram than this is good.

Replace 1 ram stick back into your motherboard & try again. If it boots then you know the other stick is bad.

If removing all the non-essentials from your motherboard doesn't work then all you have left are the motherboard & power supply. A simply power supply tester or spare power supply will tell you if it is your board or not.

Will not power up

This is a common problem with Emachine motherboards, the problem is the power supply is a best tech and allows voltage surges to the motherboard which fries it too. If available you usually have to replace both the power supply and motherboard. I do not know what exactly goes bad on the motherboard but I have replaced many emachine power supplies and motherboards. The motherboard kit which used to be available from Emachines included a power supply and no warranty if you didn't change the power supply. They knew they had a problem.

T2862 wont work -no power goes to it.

emachine?
is it new?
if its not, then check the power supply, there should be a green light on the back of the unit. if this is yellow or not lit at all then the problem is your PSU

crack the case and make sure the PSU cables are connected properly
also while your in there check for swollen capacitors or dust

Can not find heat sink switches on motherboard emachine t2862

Heat sink switches? I have to assume that you're talking about a dead mother board but the fans and the LED on the mother board are OK? This is a classic eMachines problem. Their power supplies glitch and take out the mother board sometimes the power supply goes bad too.
