Most likely it's your signal cable. You might first try plugging the sub into the same power outlet as the preamplifier, if it is not already.

Good luck,

Is there a on of switch and is the green or red light to be on

There is no main AC power switch on the BU series; it's in standby mode whenever it's plugged in.

When playing music normal LED color should be green. After no signal for 10 minutes or so it will turn back to Red (Standby)

Makes thumping noise without input from receiver

So no wires plugged into it at all? Sounds like a cold solder joint on a board or a bad connection inside the amplifier.

Sub goes full blown loud when plugged in to wall

It sounds like a power supply failure. It needs to go to a repair shop.
