Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, if the supplied Westell 7500 gateway uses Ethernet port as its output, then it would be a matter of connecting said output to the WAN input of the Netgear router and configuration/setting. Specific steps are:

  • Turn off DHCP on your westell 7500
  • Configure the first VC port to Bridge-Bridge mode
  • Keep hitting "apply" in the windows until the 7500 reboots
  • Plug the "Internet" port on the Netgear to one of the normal ethernet ports on the 7500
  • Turn on the Netgear and wait for the green Internet light to go solid
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

You will need to go into the net gear router and change the address from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254. then the enet cable coming from the westell will need to be pluged in to output port 1 not the enet in it needs to remain empty. the netgear router will not recognize the the ip address coming from the westell 7500 gateway. mike

Hi there!

The Westell 7500 has a built in DHCP server. Unfortunately so does your Netgear router. You don't want more than one DHCP server on a network assigning addresses. so you'll need to disable one. I suggest disabling DHCP on the netgear. It would be much easier. Your netgear will then essensially be a switch (don't worry the wireless will still function if its wireless) Connect the Westell to the LAN port on the router and connect the computers to the LAN ports as well. You will no longer use the WAN/Internet port on the Netgear because now its a switch! Hope this helps!

To modify settings on your westell, go to the address: 192.168.1.1, with admin and password as the username and password.

Follow this forum link, it should be some help to you: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20535007-Verizon-Westell-7500-How-do-I-set-it-to-bridge-mode

You can do so in the router bridge settings, consult the user manual that came with the product for more detailed instructions.

We currently have our wireless internet through Century Link. We are renting a Westell 7500 router from Century Link. We want to purchase our own router ( preferably the same exact router we are renting)....

The Westell 7500 is not just a router. It's a gateway (for DSL), a 4 port LAN (wired network), wireless router and can be made into a bridge, for use with a router of your choice.
It's my understanding there are modem/routers out now and you would simply set them up with the settings found in the Westell.

I need help connecting a westell 7500 router/modem,i want to get a notebook on line. i didnt receive any intsructions.i need help connecting the westell 7500 to my pc and notebook thanking you.

Westell makes a line of broadband home networking products that enable residential customers and users in small businesses to access and share broadband services. These inexpensive DSL router/modems offer multi-users Internet LAN access for home or business applications. The Westell router/modems allow you to have the benefits of the "always on" high-speed broadband Internet connection without losing the ability to receive voice calls over the same phone line.
  1. Step 1 288254_thumb.jpg Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the computer's Ethernet port. Connect the other end to the Ethernet port on the back of the Westell router.
  2. Step 2 Connect the barrel end of the router's power cord to the connector labeled "12 v" on the back of the router. Plug the other end of the power cord into a wall outlet.
  3. Step 3 Connect one end of the DSL phone cable to the DSL line jack on the back of the router. Connect the other end to the wall jack.
  4. Step 4 Wait for the Ready and the Link LEDs to glow steady green. The router is now ready to use.

hi,

I used to work for verizon for two years as level 3 support, here is the thing,if verizon already replaced the modem, that means that its not really the modem, its the connection, thats what we call intermittent route, here is what you are going to do,contact verizon, have them run an intermittent connection line test, tell them that internet connection is not consistent, they will create an active ticket for you,it will be forwarded to the central office and the central office will run a different test, thats what we call a test assist...they will be able to verify if the problem is the line form the central office going to your house...

thanks and God Bless

DSL line disconnects on WRT54GS only

Try to change the LAN IP address of your router to 192.168.2.1 by accessing the router's Setup page. You also need to set your Westell modem to "full-bridge mode". You need to ask assistance from your ISP to bridge the modem. After that, set-up the Linksys router to PPPoE then power cycle it.

Switching DSL Modems

Your dsl line stays the same. you're only changing your dsl equipment.

if you are not able to go online using the 327w, you might need to have it configured depending on the type of connection that you have. if you are using PPPoE (which means you enter a username and password on the modem to connect to verizon) you need your 327w configured for pppoe. but if you are using DHCP connection, any modem or routers should be plug and play.

Most verizon customers from the west coast uses DHCP while those on the east coast uses PPPoE.

You can call tech support to make sure which type of connection you are using.

Telephone connection

Unless you have dial up, you arent supposed to be losing any connection between the two. If you are, i would call them up and have them come out to fix it for free. That is completely rediculous.
