I have a dell optiplex gx280 on windows 7 ultimate with 2gb ram. i have a dell fh868 video card but no installation software and it will not find any drivers online, any ideas? thanks

After doing a lot of checking online. I think you should just buy a new video card. That one isn't very good at all and you can't even find vista drivers anywhere on the web let alone windows 7 drivers. Sorry.

How to Register DLL files

On Microsoft Window's operating systems, a DLL stands for Dynamic Link Library. DLL's are relatively small files that include a library of functions- usually data that can be shared across multiple applications. DLL's are called upon by various applications and can be loaded and utilized by these applications concurrently.
Registering a DLL
There are two easy ways that a DLL can be registered in your Window's operating system's registry, the first is the simplest, known as self registering files, the second way is to manually register a DLL.

Self Registering Files

It should be noted that many DLL files are self registering, they include information required to store themselves in the operating system's registry. As the name states, self registering files require no human intervention. Self registering files will automatically store themselves on your machine and become accessible when needed. Besides DLL files, other types of files that are sometimes self registering include .EXE and .OCX.

Manually Register Files

The second method used to register DLL files on your computer is via manual registration. Manually registering a DLL file is quite simple and can be done in only a few steps.
1. The first step is turn on your computer, launching your Window's operating system.

2. Once your Window's operating system has loaded completely, click on Start and then click on Run.

4. Once the command is input into the Run field correctly, press Enter.

5. Once the DLL has been registered, you should receive a confirmation in the form of a pop up box. This message will list your newly registered DLL file and confirm that is was successfully registered into the registry.

Keyboard stopped working

http://www.ascendtech.us/emachines-kb-0705-ps-2-keyboard-black_i_kbdemkb0705bps2.aspx

Things I see here.
1) The second Keyboard you plugged wasn't any good either.

2) The PS/2 port for your keyboard on your motherboard, isn't any good anymore.
Computer off, plug it into the Mouse PS/2 port, and use a USB mouse.
BIOS will reset the I/O address for that PS/2 port, and set it for the Keyboard, when the computer is turned back on.

You may have to;
A) Turn the computer off
B) Unplug from power.

C) Press the Power On button in, and hold it in for a count of 10 seconds. Let go of the Power On button. Do this same procedure two more times.

What you are doing is draining residual power, clearing CMOS Error Codes, and resetting BIOS back to the factory default settings.

Keyboard plugged in, USB mouse plugged in, plug the computer back into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

Still no?
Motherboard replacement.

You didn't unplug the old Keyboard, WITH the computer on, and plug the new Keyboard in, did you? It isn't a hot-swap device. The computer must be off when unplugging a mouse, or keyboard.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Can i use my emachine recovery disk on my gateway after i install a new hard drive on my gateway?

No, you can't. (Well, it might be possible, but very unlikely, that it would work.) Recovery discs are made for specific machines. There are a couple of reasons why the discs for one system can't be used for another brand or model.

In addition to installing the operating system (Windows), recovery discs also include drivers for the machine's included hardware (video, sound, media card slots, etc.). The drivers on the recovery disc for an eMachines system won't have what a Gateway system needs, unless they were built using exactly the same motherboard and other parts, which would be quite unusual. If wrong hardware drivers are installed, Windows may not start and give you the famous "blue screen of death". Or Windows will start, then begin finding new hardware and asking you for drivers you won't have (although you could find them at the Gateway website). The discs also include the applications the manufacturer preloaded on the system. Some of these may not work and cause problems because of the hardware differences (a sound control program with the wrong sound hardware, for instance).

The other reason is that a restore disc also includes information that gets placed into Windows so the system comes up already activated and ready to go. Activation is based on information about the hardware configuration of the system, and yours won't be correct. Windows will see the this and you'll need to activate manually. If the Windows version on the eMachines recovery disc isn't exactly the same as the one on the Gateway, the product key on the computer won't work when you try activation.

Rather than try using the wrong recovery disc, see if you can borrow or download the installation disc for the Windows version specified on the product key sticker on the Gateway. Then you can do a clean new Windows installation and activate it using the product key. You can find the drivers your computer needs at Gateway's website as I mentioned before. It's more work than just running the recovery disc, but it will work. This does mean the system won't have any of the preloaded applications originally on the computer when you're finished. But this is not a bad thing.

Much of the preloaded stuff on a new computer is often called "bloatware", which you really don't need. It just slows the computer down, uses up Windows resources, and may be gathering information and sending it to sites behind your back. You can find good free programs to do anything originally installed and install only what you really need and want. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

CD/DVD burning: CDBurnerXP
Antivirus: AVG, Avast!
Audio processing: Audacity
Image processing: GIMP
Office suite: OpenOffice

Good luck getting the system back up and running. Thanks for using Fixya!

Hello,
As you didn't mention the Operating system its not clear about your Operating system.
So here is the link to download the sound driver from a group. According to your Operating system select the option and download it into your computer and Re-start it.

Lonovo 3000 n100 shuts down suddenly after starting

Remove the harddrive and try turning it on. If that didn't work than try the memory and if that didn't work than your motherboard is dead. You can either buy a new laptop or get a new motherboard (it will be more cost effective to get a new computer). You can have your data move from the harddrive of your old computer to the new one if you go this route.
