When the set shuts down or won't turn on it is because the protection circuit has captured the power management circuit and is keeping it from powering up. The protection circuit is like an intelligent fuse. It keeps the set off to avoid damage from power overload. Some section of the tv is drawing too much current or power from the power supply.

The most common problem associated with this is the breakdown of the high voltage section. IT is driven by the horizontal deflection amplifier. If the picture comes on some of the time it means the high voltage may be unstable and sometimes will work and sometimes not. You must determine what is going on. Unless you are a trained tv tech, you will have to call in an expert who can do a diagnosis and tell you what needs to be replaced or repaired.

This could be any number of internal failures. I always start by trying the hard reset option..
-Unplug AC power from the wall. Wait about 1 minute
-Plug back in, wait a couple seconds, and try turning it back on.
Sometimes this will help if the computer crashes or glitches.
With a VCR combo, the whole thing won't come on when a tape gets jammed. If this happens, you can open the back and turn a small wheel to eject the tape, and sometimes this will fix the issue. If you do this, DON'T touch the big red wire with suction cup on the end - suctions to the tube (crt). This can have 30,000 volts and needs discharging or avoiding. Let me know what help I can give if you procede further.

TV/VCR/DVD Combo won't turn on. Power button lights for 2 seconds

You have possibly

A blown fuse - likely
A faulty power board -likely
A broken power button -unlikely

Note that the voltages inside a television are deadly and I would recommend having the tv looked at by a professional.

Try unpluging the tv and plug it back in after 30 minutes, that should be enought.
