This TV has auto convergence. There is no manual setting....
A technician would have to do any settings beyond the norm function of the tv.
The convergence controller may be bad.

Auto IntelliSense™ Focus—automatically adjusts picture
convergence at the push of a button. After reviewing a special
test pattern, optical sensors send position information to the
controller, which then corrects the pictures. Auto IntelliSense
Focus responds to the natural and man-made magnetic field
conditions where the projection TV is located, so you always
enjoy the best possible picture.

Here are the directions once you have the remote to enter maintenence mode..

    Adjustment Preparation

    1. The Cutoff Adjustment should be completed.

    2. Video Controls: Brightness to 90%; Contrast to maximum.

    Adjustment Procedure (Normal Mode)

    1. Input an NTSC signal.

    2. Press the Service Only switch on the Convergence board to enter the
    Digital Convergence Adjustment Mode (DCAM).

    3. Place the remote control transmitter into the Digital Convergence
Adjustment (DCA) Mode by removing a battery, pressing and holding the 7 and
9 keys, and replacing the battery.

Note: When the remote control transmitter is in DCAM, the TV button will not
    illuminate.

Note: The remote control transmitter will time out of DCAM in approximately
    20 seconds.

    4. Press the Help key on the remote control transmitter. A green crosshatch
    will appear.

    5. Press the Exit key (this is the Phase Adjustment Mode).

How to adjust the convergence setting in a phillips model 60pp9401 tv

Use your remote and goto the convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.

I own a 60PP9401 60 in. Rear projection tv. My red convergance was way out of line. I placed tv in the shop a while back, cost me $300 to get it fixed! Got set home, red still out of line, but not as bad. My...

This set has an advanced menu for adjusting the convergence and what may have happened is the shop adjusted it (It is done with an original Philips remote) and then not SAVED THE ADJUSTMENTS INTO THE SET'S MEMORY.

I can if you have the remote get into the menu and adjust and SAVE the adjustments. If the set is HD the convergence will have to be adjusted two times, once in regular and once in HD.

Let me know if you have questions.

I have a phillips 60 in rear projection tv model #60PP9401. and it is exhibiting the appearance of double vision, can this be fixed economically

Projection TV sets have two very common problems oulined below.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • No Audio/Video - TV Makes Chirping Sound

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

Convergence

This set is made by Hitachi and uses two STK392-110, Sanyo amps to control convergence. You have likely one amps that is shorted causing the problem, but it's HIGHLY recommended that you replace both amps. Also it uses 1.8 ohm 1w resistors, out in front of the amps, for the yoke return circuit and one or more of them may need to be replaced if they are beyond tolerance.
For this job you need a soldering station, VU meter with a ohms test, desoldering braid and a skill level of 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Anything 5 or above would be a category of someone schooled in electronics.
If you need to find a tech in your area I suggest http://www.tvrepairpros.com/

Hope this helps!
