Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Is there a filter and how/do I need to clean it?

I bought the house with this machine in it, so have no documentation. I have a number of pets with lots of bedding, therefore, lots of hair to accumulate during washing. I'm concerned about a filter clogging somewhere. Is this a valid concern, and if so what do I need to do to rectify it? Thanks.

Re: Is there a filter and how/do I need to clean it?

Most washing machines have a lint trap that is easy to find. I don't know this model, but open the lid and find where the recirculating water falls out from a hose or plastic tray above the wash tub. somewhere below this point, in the path of the falling water, is a lint trap. remove it and clean it

Hi, These do not have filter that can be cleaned or changed. If you notice water draining slow at any time, you will need to open up the pump (not hard to do) and clean out any lint.
I hope this helps you. If I can assist you further, please let me know.

How to clean filter

You need to post the make and model number. But if the filter is sticking then you may have to remove the hoses and clamps and screws that hold the housing and take the whole thing out. I have seen some serious issues with those and bobby pins causing jams etc.

How to use sham wow

ShamWow clothes are an alternative to using paper towels or a sponge. They have a chamois texture and wring dry fairly well. I wouldn't use them in place of microfiber cloth for cleaning an LCD screen or another surface that could be scratched. (When they are new, they are probably ok. However, if particulates get picked up, they might do damage.)

When they need cleaning, throw them in the clothes washer then let them dry on a line. Use bleach (as directed on the bottle) when needed (remember germs are on most household surfaces).

I use products like the ShamWow to clean up spills around the house. They can be used to dry a pet after a bath. (I haven't tried it with my pet but he has a history of tearing apart towels.)

I hope this helps.

I have a stackable unit model numberltf2140fs2 it will not drain and go into spin cycle is there a strainer that needs cleaning how do iget to it

This is almost certainly a simple problem with your empty pump filter being clogged. The empty cycle is timed and if it can't get all the water out in time because the filter is blocked and slowing the empty down, then it will fail safe and won't step on to the final spin cycle with excess water in the drum. While it's trying to get the water evacuated, you will probably see the machine doing a slow tumble for up to 8 minutes and you may also hear the empty pump running too.
You need to locate and clean the filter. Unfortunately, on this model, it's in a horrible place!

Rather than try to describe it, if you go to the Sears Parts direct site and look at the diagram for the motor and tub at this web address:

You will see a diagram of the drum and associated parts. You can zoom in on the diagram. In the bottom right section of the diagram, you will see part number 41, the filter housing ad part number 40, the filter its self. You will need to:
Remove the clip (No. 48) that holds the housing to the empty pump
Remove the clip (also No.48) that holds the air chamber to the housing
Remove the clip (No. 42) that holds the housing to the drum

You should now be able to remove the filter housing and filter. Strip and clean it before reassembly.

If the above doesn't get you where you need to be, please come back to me with a comment and I will provide further assistance

My washing machine keeps bleeping E20 at me help ????

Check your discharge hose, the grey one, is not blocked, check your filter is not blocked. E20 is machine not emptying water, at worse your pump is gone.
Best tip is remove your grey hose from the waste system give the end a good clean with disinfectant first then blow really hard down it several times, this should be enough to dislodge anything blocking it or the filter or the pump intake, then see if your machine will empty if it does all well and good you can then remove the filter housing for inspection and cleaning. if it was your pipe blocked likely it will of pumped the blockage out when it emptied.
For full instructions follow the link I have put below for your Service Manual. Good luck, lets hope you will be back in action in no time.
It is a PDF file so you can save it to your documents or print it off.
It would appear that your machine is not emptying the water out. Could be a kink in the hose or pump stuck/failed. For further information do a web search AEG Lavamat manuals and put in the model number and you can download all the instructions.

Hello, I have bought a house with a Hotpoint

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

(extract from my filter and motor guidance pre-typed notes!)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel LHS or RHS (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!) and held in by a round cover/knob.
You will need to type into your search engine/web browser '(make) washer manual' and you should be presented with a number of sources from which you can either download for free or have to pay a nominal amount. During the process you will be asked for the actual model number!
Good luck with both!

I washed a rug and the back fell apart clogging the washer somehow so the water wont drain what do i do?

You may need to do more than just a filter cleaning. Your sump and hoses are all probably clogged too. Looks like you will have to take the washer apart and give it a good flush out.

I bought two of these washers and they both have this problem. The worry is not only the horrible smell but the fact that these washers are not killing germs but rather creating bateria and mold.

have teck come and clean out filter, mold, etc behind seal, then clean about 1 time a month by running wash cycle with hot water, no clothes and 1 cup bleach, always leave door open til washer drys, careful if small children or pets are in the house they may climb in
