When I plug the phone line into the phone the ringer rings nonsto

When I plug the phone line into the phone, the ringer rings nonstop.
I have a similar GE/ATLINKS cordless phone that I am using now only it doesn't have a built in answering machine , It works just fine on this line.
I was able to set up the phone as far as time/ date and announcement.
If I turn the ringer switch off, the phone works fine. But what good is a phone if you can't hear the ringer.

please help

sincerely David Ferguson

Makes no mention of constantly ringing. Are they beeps you hear, or actual long warbles (rings)?

David;
Sounds like it's the phone and not the line.
Is there a page or intercom setting that might be causing the continuous ring?
Also are the batteries that can be taken out for a reset
If it's a new phone I'd get a refund.
Let me know what the result was

I have tried every configuration of the wiring I can think of. I have 2 jacks and a Ring Selector for the fax machine.

What is the make or brand/model of the phone you are referring to? Does it has a line 1/2 selector or a ringer selector on the panel?
Maybe the phone you have has a selector on its side.
I need more info.
Best regards.

How do I reenable the ringer on my ATT 993 phone. The phone does not ring

Make sure to look on the phone itself, and see if there might be a button on the unit, or base station, that turns the ringer on/off.

Can not tune the ringer on

You should be able to change the ringer settings in two ways when the handset is not in use. 1) Press and hold the Volume up/Down arrows on the handset. The handset should show the current ringer setting (High, Low, Ringer Off). Press Select. The current setting should flash and you will hear the current volume (if the ringer is on). Use the up/down arrows to select your desired setting; the phone should give a ring. Then press Select to confirm. Again the phone should ring.
2) Press Prog. Use the up/down arrows to select Ringer Volume. Then press Select and use the up/down arrows to chose a new volume. Press Select to confirm.

If your phone still does not ring, there are items to check.
Try a new telephone line cord and make sure that the base is plugged into a working outlet. Move closer to the base.
Make sure that you are away from other electronics that could interfere. Check that you do not have too many devices plugged into your phone line. Each one should have an REN (ring equivalence number). The total REN for all devices should be 5 or less; disconnect the other extensions/devices and test again.
Make sure that the phone is providing a dial tone and a test phone will ring when dialed. (I like to use an old corded phone for testing.) If a test phone won't ring, you have a wiring problem. See additional trouble-shooting information below.
Remove the battery in the handset and then reconnect it. Wait for the handset to synch with the base and try again.
If you have a DSL filter, try replacing it.
The manual for the CS5121 is available from V-Tech here: http://www.vtechphones.com/vtechphones/index.cfm/product-detail/?event=ehCatalog.productDetail&ProductID=55#documents .

Phone line testing:
Using a test phone with a new line cord, check for dial tone and ring at the first jack. If your test phone rings, then the problem is the handset. Move to another jack on the line and test again. If you get a ring here, the first jack or the wiring to the jack has a problem. If there is no ring, find where your service comes in. Open the box and check the type of connection. If you have a relatively new phone service, you'll find an RJ-11 jack. Plug in your test phone and check for dial tone and ring. If it doesn't work or there is no RJ-11 jack, contact your service provider. They can test the line and will repair any outside problems for free. If the problem is inside, you will need to look at all the exposed wiring for damage. If only the one jack is bad, open it up and check that the wires are properly connected. There are two types of jacks: one secures the conductors with screws, the other is a keystone. The keystone jacks require a punch down tool to press in the conductors. This punchdown tool is available from many home improvement stores in the wiring section. This site has a picture of how the conductors should be connected: http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx .

If the handset is bad, you can try a replacement handset, if available. If the phone is under warranty, contact V-tech. Otherwise decide if it is worth servicing, these phones were not meant to be user serviced.

I hope this helps.

There could be DC voltage on the ringer circuit. When a phone line is not in use there should be 0 Volts on the ringer circuit. Sometimes a device connected to your line can "leak" voltage on to the ringer circuit, and some phones will see this as a continuous ring signal.

1. Check all of the telephone cables and any power cables - are they securely plugged in?
2. Remove every device connected to your phone line except the phone that was ringing continuously.
3. If the ringing stops, put the devices back one at a time and see which one causes the problem.
4. If the ringing does not stop, the fault is either in the telephone or your master socket.
5. If you have another phone that is known to be working, try it out to see if it has the continuous ringing.
6. If the problem no longer occurs, there could be a problem the telephone equipment, and you should contact the telephone's manufacturer for support.
7. If the test phone has the continuous ringing, call your telephone provider and tell them that there may be a short circuit in your phone line.
8. If the problem happens only with your cordless phone, and not a corded phone, then it could be interference from a device such as a wireless broadband router or microwave or the cordless handset batteries may not be charging properly.

I have 4 KX-TG2740 units, each with 2 lines. One unit does not ring for line 1. It says "Ringer Off line 1". I can't figure out how to correct. Thank you.

Press CONF/FUNCTION key, scroll to Ringer Setting by using the up or down arrow of the center navigator key, then press the right arrow. Press the right arrow again at Ringer Volume. Press the down arrow to select Line 1. Press the up or down arrow to choose the ringer volume you want. Press the right soft key SAVE, a confirmation beep will sound.

The ringer volume can also be set while a call is ringing in on the line. Make a call to Line 1 number, use up or down arrow key while phone is ringing to adjust volume of Line 1 ringer.

RINGER VOLUME

Go back to that original 7433. Beg, borrow, or steal one of those phones from someone else and plug it back in. Have someone call you on the intercom and make sure the AUTO ANS button is not lit. Does it ring? Now plug in your 7453 and do the same thing. Does it ring?

I think I only had one or two of those models and the ringer is a two step switch (3 positions) OFF LO HI on the side of the phone. Make sure it's set to something besides OFF.

If the phone rings on intercom but not on the outside lines, that's a different problem.

Ringer settings on 8825 base unit

You can adjust the volume and pitch of the ringing by pushing Menu, scroll forward to Desk Station Settings, push Select, scroll to Ringer Volume and you can adjust the ringer volume, and in that same area adjust the pitch. So you might want to make line 2 ring lower, and with a different pitch so it is not distracting, but still notifies you of an incoming call that is not line 1. The same goes for the handset.

Phone Doesn't Ring

If the phone has a dial tone, adjust the ringer loudness (this adjustment is on the bottom of some phones). Also check to see if there is a switch for turning off the ringer--and turn it on. In some cases, you can't connect more than five phones to a given line or they won't ring properly. If this is your situation, you may have to disconnect one or more phones, or at least turn their ringers off.
