I have a near new C7280 and it wont print, copy, scan or send a fax - an all-in-one total piece of cr*p...yep, recycled the power a few thousand times.

Hey, me too! Bought new on 9/29/07, for $400. At the 16 month point, with less than 600 pages on the page count, the non-printer functions have suddenly stopped working. No fax, no scan, no copy. Called HP tech support and tried a reset over the phone (push # and 6 while restarting printer). No help. Since I'm 4 months out of warranty, there's "nothing they can do." Seems like a common theme for a very expensive device.

Keep getting the message "unable to scan, copy or send fax" and the printer becomes busy. Any solutions please?

I have the same exact problem and removing the power cord and then plugging it back in makes it work for little while. THEN, right back to not working.

You can try a reset on the printer using the # and the number 6,holding them down
while plugging in the power cord at the back of the printer.if it still does not work
then you can try the same with the # and the number 9.If it still does not work, get
your printer serviced.

Obviously its scanner error, the whole scanner assembly needs replacement. It could be the bulb or the scanner board, but upon replacing it needs both.

  4. When the product starts to scan the document to copy, slightly lift the scanner lid to see if the scanner light turns on. Unable to send, copy or send fax

Sounds like the scanner bulb is burnt out or it's not able to move the scanner sled.
It should be saying "scanner error" as well. (and I think you meant unable to scan, copy or send fax)
No fix unfortunately other than getting a replacement unit (which I believe now is the 8500 premiere)

If you need a replacement, your timing is good, they are $200 off right now, and selling for $299.

Your unit as it stands still makes a good printer and will receive faxes, and you CAN send a fax as long as you do it from the computer.

My HP Photosmart C5240 will print from computer but will not scan or make copies.

Is there any error message displayed on the control panel of the printer just like one of the following:
Scanner failure, power off and on
Scanner System Failure
Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
Scanner failure, cycle power

You may want to try following these steps:
1. Check if the scanner light does turn on when you initiated the scanning process, if not you need to reset the product.
2. Try using your other electrical outlet because your AVR or Surge Extension may not be providing enough voltage for the printer.
3. Try using dirty cycle, meaning you need to directly cut the power of your printer by pulling of the power cord from the rear side of your printer and wait for about 30 seconds before inserting again and turn it on.

If all these steps do not improve your printer functionality, you may want to call the HP online help and ask for replacement.

I just got my printer its an hp officejet 4500 model G510g. i got it not too long ago about two weeks and when i turn on the printer after it says warming up, it says "scaner failure. unable to scan,...

Your printer should still be under warranty.
Either take it back to the place where you purchased it or call HP. Their number should be in your manual.

Hello, I have an HP OfficeJet 7310 all-in-one print/scanner/fax etc. I purchased about two years ago but don't use very often. Yesterday while I was trying to send a fax I received a loud winding-up...

I have same problem! The copy/scan function would feed the orginal from the ADF halfway and instead of making a normal loud feeding noise it made a horriable alarming sound and displayed an error message. To fix it: I waited a day or two and bang the top of the feeder cover with normal force while the original is feeding. It appeared the problem is resolved. I have no idea what the problem is, however I think if this work for few months at a time is fine by me.
