I had issues with my iPod touch in a similar situation, for me it all had to do with the WiFi component inside. It got damaged or fried from the over usage. It would load tiny bits of information on pretty much anything internet related but then die out trying to load forever. I would have to turn off wifi and try again. I had to take into apple and get the piece replaced, by which I firgured it was time to upgrade.
I RECOMMEND you try this first:
1. Uninstall Facebook app and re-install it.
Press and hold the "Home" button untill apps are shaking
Touch the "X" on the facebook app you want to uninstall
Re-download and install app from app store.
2. Update the iPod version
3. Take into apple support get the wifi component replaced
4. Upgrade to a newer device :/
hope it helps.

First connect to the internet on your ipod touch. Second select App store icon at the bottom of your screen for a list of apps you would like. Then select the app you want. You will be prompted to sign into your itunes account with your user name and password. After you sign in, press the download now icon. Your app should download and the apps icon should appear grayed out on your screen. The app is done downloading and ready for you to play when the app icon looks nice and bright like the other icons.
Try removing that app from your iPod, then download it again from the App Store (free re-downloads) or if it is on your computer, simply connect your iPod and upload it back onto your iPod. That always works for me.
I dont know if this will work for you guys but i had the same problem but when i download a new app the problem goes away. It works for me whenever this happens and hopefully it will work for you too, so just get some crappy free app then delete it later.
