Question about Toshiba 250GB TOSHIBA USB 2.0 PORTABLE EXTERNAL 25 250 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

Thanks for the advice

Thank you so much for replying but I am afraid I still can not see the external harddrive :( I can see it in the device manager in the pc and it says that there are no problems with the device, but I can't see it in the desktop. The same with the MAC I can see it if I use the disk utility and when I tried to repair it it tells me that it can't repair it because of an error.

Can you access the device using Windows Explorer?
For the PC: (Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ Windows Explorer)
I always use the Windows Explorer to move files for back-up or other reasons to my XHD.
The nice thing about this particular device is you don't need additional software.

Let me know if this gets you any farther

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver:
if your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
hope this helps

Hi, Thank you for email . I have a small Philips 250gb external hard drive model No. sde3275xc/97. It came into contact with some water 2 days ago and since then my laptop does not recognise it. It is not...

It's possible that a harddrive coming into contact with water would no longer be usable. You can have a professional recover the data, if the data on the device is important. Please check the info below:

http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com.au/top-four-data-loss-tips/

You can also try placing the harddrive in a bowl of uncooked rice overnight. The uncooked rice will absorb the moisture from the device. Although I cannot guarantee this fix as its possible that water may have damaged the harddrive.

Reconization of external harddrive on my computer

Have you removed it at anytime before, if so better putting back into same usb port, or firewire or try using another one. Assuming all drivers have been loaded for the HDD. See if the drive is recognised, go to My Computer, right click then manage, then look at disk management and see if it's there. If not there and you know your ports are ok, then there is a hardware fault.
