Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I checked in last week by posting about a problem getting my Zonet ZPS1000 print server to work with my Linksys WRT54GS router. Mr. Bubbabear64 attempted to help me and I didn't have any luck. Part of the problem is my lack of tech-savvy. I still can't get my system to detect the print server and I've attempted to contact by email and phone the folks at Zonet. Apparently they are off for the winter season. Does anybody have any advice or suggestions.

Normally you will connect the printer to your computer then install the driver and make sure you can print. Then you will connect your printer to the print server then connect your print server to your router. Then install the Zonet software onto your desktop and select your printer in its configuration. What kind of problem/error are you running into exactly?

Temporarily disable all firewalls on your system even the Windows XP firewall
(for instruction to disable XP firewall, please go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283673 )

Power cycle the print sever by unplug the power at the back (10 second).
The print server default IP is 192.168.5.1
Set the computer which has the print server utility installed to have an IP of 192.168.5.2

(Test ping the print server / 192.168.5.1 --
If print server is respond to ping, using web browser with the address of 192.168.5.1 will also beable to configure the print server)

Run the utility/hit the refresh button to find the print server again.
The CD has two installation methods:
1. The Auto run will run the utility.
2. By manually install the program into your system. (Browse CD to the folder: manual installation.)
It is recommended to use the 2nd method and run the PSAdmin utility from the system's programs after the installation is completed.
If it still could not find the print server, direct connect your computer to the print server using cross over cable and run the utility again to find the print server.
When it finds the print server, change the print server IP(192.168.5.1) to a unique static IP your router can accept. Put the print server back to the network, change back your computer's IP accordingly and try ping the print server with the new IP or run the utility again.

For wireless print server, it is recommended to use Ad-hoc connection from a wireless computer to connect to the print server first. (follow the Quick Installation Guide booklet that came with the box on page 8)

How to contact sys-admin(wiz)

Plug the print server in the back of your computer using the ethernet port. Insert the setup cd into the same computer. Assign an IP address for you print server using 10.10.10.xxx. xxx=available address number on your network. If it requires the gateway address use 10.10.10.1 if that is the correct address of your Linksys router.

You can verify the correct router address from your computer. Make sure your computer is connected to the network (not the print server) and go into the control panel. Select Network Connections. Move the mouse to you network card. Press the right mouse button and select status. The gateway address is your router address.

Can't connect my Linksys WRT54GS router to zonet zps1000

The gateway would be the address that your router uses.

You would plug the print server into the back of the computer using the ethernet line.

Linksys wrt54gs won't work

Your router might need a restart to begin communicating with the modem again. Remove power from the router, wait a few seconds, then turn the power back on.

Trying to turn a Linksys WRT54GS into a hub

  1. If you want to set the router to work only as a switch with wireless access point, you may need to get into its setup page and adjust some settings.
  2. Using a computer that is wired directly to one of the router's Ethernet ports, launch IE and type 192.168.1.1. It is the default IP address of the router. Then it will open a window, asking for a username and password. By default, there is no username and the password is admin.
  3. Once you're in the router's User Interface, look for a sub tab called "Advanced Routing" under the main tab SETUP. Then set router mode to "Router" instead of Gateway. In some router's, the choice there is NAT enable or disable. If it is the one showing there instead of Router mode, then set NAT to disable. Click Save settings which is located at the bottom portion of the screen.
  4. Then click on "Basic Setup" and then disable DHCP server. Save the settings then.
  5. Then your modem now will be connected to one of the 4 Ethernet ports of the router.
Hope this helps!
