Question about Compaq Presario R3000 Notebook

Ram upgrade = computer will not load

I inserted 1 gb of ram on my Presario R3000 in the slot next to the batter and the inital 'compaq' screen comes up but just stays there. The laptop worked 2x without stalling at the compaq screen, but froze shortly afterwards.
The ram is made by samsung, bought from crucial.

A site checked prior to purchase said this was compatible, but it doesn't work.

Any suggestions? Thanks

I have reinstalled it several times but it always causes the frozen compaq screen.

I also went to download bios and drivers but already had most up to date versions

Maube your ram has a fault, can u check it out on a other notebook

also i recomend to do a firmware upgrade for ur notebook because in a firmware there a lots a bug fixes for your notebook also it makes your notebook compatible with other ram modules and cpu´s

go here and choose your notebook from this list

http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=R3000&submit=Go+%BB

First check out the RAM you had prior. If it is DDR or DDR2 then it needs to match exactly. If you go to the HP website and type in your model number they can tell you what RAM is compatible. If it matches what you bought and its not working then the RAM is bad and needs to be sent back.

Please rate this solution and thanks for using FixYa.

Can i put a 2 gb ram upgrade in my compaq presario cq-60 along with the existing 1 gb ram that the computer came with

probably not ... traditional wisdom says memory chips should match for best results and I think there is only two slots ...

if you are physically able to do this ... same number of chips as slots ... take out the old ... put in the new and try it ... then turn it off again ... put in the old ... the worst thing that will happen is your computer will not boot.

Upgrade memory for Compaq Presario R3000 PC Notebook

What OS are you running? 768 should be enough to run XP and keep you from getting that error message. On laptops their are normally just 2 slots for ram, so you would need to replace the 256 with the 512, which would bring you up to a gig of ram. Do you know if your computer has any spyware/adware on it? Sometimes malware can take up all your memory and generate just such an error. Do you know how many processes are running when you first login? Thank you.
