I tried to turn the drum and it appears to be jammed by something, or somethings unknown. I cannot make it (the drum) make a complete revolution. what does this mean? is that why the motor threw a perfectly good belt? any help is appreciated!

How do I change a broken belt on washer

With most machines the back case comes off and its simple to do /Belt slips over the pulley then onto the motor Shaft, with some machines you may have to loosen the motor to adjust belt tension, making sure belt will not slips or be too tight which could result in bearing stress..Good luck

My washer wont spin or agitate and there was a burning smell

Hi
Older top load washers use a belt to drive to transfer the energy from motor to drum. However, if the belt slips, stretches, or breaks, it can cause friction and a burning smell, most likely a burning "rubber" smell. The belt is located either from the back access panel or from the underside of the washer. The solution is to replace the belt with a new one. To replace the belt you can open the back lid of the washer
To replace the belt carefully pry up on front washer top to release plastic keeper pins, remove 2 Phillips screws from beneath lower front washer panel, slightly lift upward on panel to release. Now remove old broken belt, push new belt beneath large tub pulley and put belt on small motor pulley. After this push back belt tension /idler arm, start belt on large tub pulley, turn tub pulley by hand to run belt on, release tension on idler arm. Replace front panel and lower top.
Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

I have a Frigidaire GLTF1670A washer. When the washer goes into the spin cycle, I have noticed a progressively louder belt slipping sound. The washer is 7 years old. Do I need to replace the belt, or is...

Disconnect the washer from the electrical supply then remove the screws shown holding the rear access panel to the washer’s rear panel and lift the access panel off.

Cushion the bottom of the cabinet opening as shown to avoid hurting yourself with the sharp edge.

Plug the washer in then start a loaded spin cycle to check for belt slippage and the motor operation itself.

Replace the belt if loose or slipping. Remove the belt by turning the tub drive pulley and rolling the belt off the pulley.

Install the new belt in reverse order by wrapping it around the motor pulley and on one side of the tub drive pulley then turn the pulley to the other side in such a way that the belt wraps completely around the pulley. Secure the rear access panel back into position to complete the procedure.

My washer wont spin and it smells like it is burning it is only 3 yrs old

The burning you smell is probably the belt slipping. There is a belt which is attached to pulleys. The belt engages to spin the basin in the washer. When this belt slips the burning smell happens because the pulleys are spinning and the belt isn't. You will probably need to adjust the tension on the pulleys or get a new belt. This can happen from constantly overloading the washer or trying to get the washer to wash and extra large load while the water level is set at a smaller load.

How di change the belt on a 2000 maytag top load washer?

HI. you may have a defective idler pulley. excessive bearing clearance can cause the belt to slip off at times. A worn belt will slip off as well. i suggest gaining access to the belt to inspect for damage. you can start by pressing in the middle of the longest straight run. It should deflect no more that one inch. also inspect the belt for cracks, frayed edges or other signs of excessive wear. if any damage or excessive looseness is found, replace asap. It could also be stretched.

((You can check the pulley by removing the belt and physically rotating the pulley, if the pulley has excessive wobbling or shifting, replace it))

FAN BELT

It can be done from the top, but it is awkward.
Remove top cover, and tilt washer towards you , you may need someone to hold it steady for you.
Reach down inside washer and slip belt over motor pulley, then start to feed belt over drum pulley guiding it round the pulley, at the same time turn drum with pulley gradually feeding the belt around..
The only other way is to remove the rear half of the cabinet, this is quite an involved job.
Good luck.
Plz rate my soution.
Thanks.

Need instructions on changing belt pic.too for Amana Lw3502w 10YRS OLD

Take off front of machine- 2 screws bottom sides. You need to take the bolts out of the motor brackets (4) and it would help if you drained all of the water out of the water pump so you can take the hoses off. Release the spring pressure on the idler pulley and unclip the motor plug on the side of the motor near the top. Now you should be able to pull the motor out and gain access to the three torx screws on the bottom of the pump. Make a note of how the pump sits on the bottom of the motor and how the belt is routed through the legs of the pump and around the pulleys. Reverse the procedure and reassemble. Don't forget to re-apply the spring pressure to the idler pulley. The motor drive pulley should be clean, shiny, and smooth. If not the belt won't slip like it should and will burn up when the washer spins. It has to slip untill all of the water is out of the tub before it spins up to full speed. Found this- and I'm gonna try it.

Replace Belt Om WMA30 Washer

Yeh
If you pull out the machine from where ever it is... then feel around the top on the sides of the machine two oblong small screw covers.. remove the covers remove the star shaped screws. and lift the top up from the front side of the machine and push back and it will come off..

remove the little panel at the back 4 screws. you do this so you can adjust the belt to sit on the last grooves on the motor pulley..

Now to get the belt you have to do it from the top if your doing it alone.. So from the top of the machine you lower the belt donw and onto the motor pulley then you put the belt on the fly wheel and turn it so as it walks on the flywheel...

rember pulley first then walk it on the flywheel and remember to adjust on the pulley so it sits on the grroves nearest to you not the motor

Changing belt on washing machine, that broke

to change the belt you need to remove the pump attatched to the motor. the pump is held on by either spring clamps or in older models, torx (star) screws. I believe the size for the torx screws is #20. slip the belt over the motor pulley and around the tension pulley and finally around the transmission. reinstall the pump and you're good to go.
