When i turn my Zune on (16g) it doesn't light up most of the time and it makes it really hard to read the screen. The only time it does light up is right after I unplug it from my computer. What can I do to fix this?

Re: My Zune will not light up.
There is an issue with the backlight of your screen. Sorry but your screen probably needs to be replaced. There are third party Zune repair services, that will fix it for cheap. Even better, I found an DYI Zune repair guide,so
can do it yourself too, not that difficult. Part is available
on Ebay. If you can't do it yourself, have a tech savy friend do it
for you. If it does work on a different PC, then the issue lies within
your windows. If you re-install your PC to factory and then re-install
fresh zune software it should work.
Suggestion #1 .. Diek, maybe try to reset your device. .. In fact, everyone try to do the reset. I do it at least once a week, just to give my Zune a soft kick in the pants. Mind you, I got me the ancient and original 30. .. Set your backlight to 15 seconds. "Always on" will drain your battery far too quickly. .. Drain the battery and then let it charge for a minimum of 3 hours. .. Perhaps a Restore is needed, but only as a last result 'cause it will wipe your Zune clean.
.. Outside of all of that, call Zune support at 1-877-438-9863.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

Most zune 120s and 80 gigs with code 5 or 3 need major repair
due to hard drive failed I see alot of them for sale.hard drives are not very cheap. seems to me that ms bought cheap drives.so send it in for repair or sell it.
find the reset button and use a paperclip to press down on the resset button. only for 10 seconds. if it doesn;t work then do it again and hold it for 30 seconds.if that doesn;t work hold it for a min. if that does;t work its fried.
To do this, use a small screwdriver to pop off the plastic shielding where
the zune cable plugs into and remove the two screws on either side of the plug.
Next pop the cover off and locate the battery plug at the top left corner of the
zune, using your screw driver, pop the cable connection half way off, and do
this to the other plug on the right side. Wait 3 seconds, then push down the
right connector and then the left battery connecter. Your zune should start up
immediately. Press the backing of the zune down (make sure headphone jack is
aligned) and put the screws and cover back in place.
It's an easy process but if you're unsure don't attempt it.
One last ditch effort: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
And, yeah, as far as the international replacement - that is how all the manufacturers are - they are not willing to pay the cost to keep their customers. Also, they have no process in place for fulfilling such a request, even if they have offices in both countries (which most of them do). Sad, really.
I turned on my Zune and the screen froze so I turned it off but it would not turn back on.
I went online and read somewhere that if the screen freezes then you should press up and back and wait for the zune insignia to come on. Well my zune was not just frozen it would not go on but I tried the up and back thing and it worked. it took about 9-13 seconds but it worked so give it a chance and if that doesn't work try charging it overnight. Hope that helps :D
