Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

How do I get top lid off of Kenmore washer model 110.25852400.

I have a Kenmore automatic washer model 110.25852400. I have to replace the lid switch. How do I get top lid off? Thanks-Mike

After I checked the "Thanks for trying" box and sent it, I had second thoughts on it. I was frustrated because I still could not get the top off. I tried the 2 putty knives and saw where I had a plastic flat rectangular washer there in place. Looking at it from the inside up under the lid I saw a machine screw holding it in place. It seemed that the lid was attached to the main box with the 2 screws in front. I apologize for my rating. It was too late to retract it once I sent it. I did order the part (it is enroute) . I thought if nothing else i could attempt to take the back panel off and maybe get to it from there. Thank you for your lengthy explanation. Mike

Kenmore top loader automatic washer problem

First, see the Sears Parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.92272100&pathTaken=partSearch

Then see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service manual for these washers.

It does sound like a Timer problem BUT, before replacing it I'd test it using the Service Manual procedures AND:

Often the problem can be an intermittent Lid Switch malfunction.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

Kenmore model 2072290 top load washer machine

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieveModelDetails.pd?modelNumber=11020722990&productCategoryId=0153200&brandId=0582&brandDeion=KENMORE&modelName=AUTOMATIC-WASHER

and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

Replacing lid switch

someone, Im not finding that model number. Going by the first six digits Im assuming that this is a regular top loader and not an Oasis washer. If so, remove the end caps on the consol by pulling them off. Remove the screws under each end cap and flip the consol up. Unplug the lid switch connector and snap springs holding the cabinet on. The whole cabinet will pull forward and you can get at the lid switch. Check out the pics and post back...Catriver.
