Should be inside the case on the system board near the back of the power supply (or under it)

Where is transmission dipstick 1989 Mercedes 300SE

If it is not under the bonnet in the engine bay and clearly marked so you can find it then that model and engine does not have an auto trans dip stick and filler tube. The auto transmission has to be filled by removal of a filler plug on the side of the transmission and accessed from under the vehicle.

How to replace dvd drive in gateqay MX 6428?

1) Remove ALL power.
Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

2) Lay a soft static free cloth on the table you are working on.
Helps prevent scratching the table, and the laptop.

3) Laptop closed, turn it over, lay it upside down on the soft cloth, Battery Compartment AWAY from you.

4) In the middle/right of the laptop is a large odd shaped panel.
Goes from the middle of the laptop to the upper right.
Has 7 screws in it.

This is the Memory Bay Cover.
There are 4 screws along the Top.
2 screws along the Bottom.

These screws are loosened to remove the Memory Bay Cover.
They do Not remove.

HOWEVER, there is a 7th screw. This is the Keyboard screw.
When removed the Keyboard can begin to be removed.
It has to be removed in order to remove the Memory Bay Cover.

This screw is located on the Right side of the Memory Bay Cover.
It is right next to the CURVE.

Loosen it as much as possible. When removing the Memory Bay Cover this screw may fall out. Be AWARE so that the cover is on top of the table, and can catch the screw, if it falls out.

With the Keyboard screw loosened all the way, and the 6 screws which hold the Memory Bay Cover in place, go to the Top of the Memory bay Cover.

There is a Thumb Notch at the Top/Left side of the cover. Use your thumb to lift up on the cover.

NOTE*
There are plastic tabs formed out of the cover, and they are on the opposite side of the Thumb Notch.
Raise the cover to a tilting position, and lift the cover away from the laptop.
Otherwise you could break these plastic tabs off.

5) At this point you NEED to follow Anti-Static Precautions.
You are looking at the copper Cooling Tube, Heatsink, and Fan Assembly.

The Processor is right there, under the Top Cooling Tube's aluminum metal plate.
{The graphics chipset is under the small aluminum metal plate, at the end of the Bottom Cooling Tube }

A Processor is the most susceptible hardware component, to Static shock.
It would be best to use a plastic screwdriver, or wear an ESD wrist strap, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source.
(Average cost of an ESD wrist strap is around $3 to $6)

IF nothing else, KEEP your fingers away from the cooling system.
Make SURE the metal Philips screwdriver you are using has no Static.

In the Memory Bay Compartment to the immediate Right, of the bottom Cooling Tube's metal plate, is the DVD drive screw.

Look at the copper Cooling Tube on the bottom. Look at the small aluminum metal plate on the end. Come straight over to the right.

There's the screw hole you removed the screw from, for the Memory Bay Cover, and above it is the DVD drive screw.
Remove this screw.
(Loosen all the way, CAREFULLY turn the laptop over, and let the screw fall to the table. Do NOT lose it)

Press the tray button on the DVD drive. This makes the tray pop out a little bit. Gently pull the tray until it is all the way out, then pull the DVD drive out of the laptop.

Also, here is a free Service Manual,

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-gateway

Go to the top heading that starts with Gateway 400. (400 in blue)
Drop down to the second line, and scroll across to MX6400.
Click on MX6400.

{The Gateway MX6428 is part of the Gateway MX6400 series of Notebook PC's }

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the file name (MX6400), it may take up to 30 seconds before the first page comes up.

At the top of the PDF file is the page number box. It is to the right of the Down Arrow.
Go to Page 11.

Product data sheet claims there are 2 memory bays but I find only one back in the memory expansion bay. How do I access the second (hidden) memory slot?

Some model laptops have memory slots in different locations.
One would be on the bottom of the laptop and one would be on top of the motherboard under the keyboard.
The memory slot on top of the motherboard would already be fitted with a memory module and only needs to be replaced with a larger RAM module if required.

Gateway 300se install memory

Go to Crucial.com and place in your model number and they will tell you what kind and max size of memory your machine takes. Remember to keep yourself grounded to the Pc when installing the memory or it can destroy your chips inside with static electricity.

Gateway MFATXSTLKTH 300SE WITH XP Home

Sorry, Gateway's site requires serial number input to determine the original factory configuration.
You can access their records here;
and see a review of the 300SE from back in the day here
I would have thought XP was installed NTFS, but without the serial number I couldn't check very easily.
Please also see FAT & NTFS and FAT vs NTFS for a primer on the two file system that may help you decide which to choose if you are reinstalling XP on your system.

If you need further assistance please post back with a comment to this thread. If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!

Have a friend (senior citizen-fixed income) using Gateway TBR3450 PIII W98 and needs new Printer that will only work with W2000/ME/XP. I'll do the XP update for her but I want the original PC specs...

It's a while since I used Win 98, but as far as I remember, if you right-click the My Computer icon and select 'properties' the processor type, bus speed and memory info are listed on the General tab.

Go to the Hardware tab, click 'Device Manager' and from there you can find details of all the installed hardware.

Hope this helps,

Matt.
