Should be inside the case on the system board near the back of the power supply (or under it)

Gateway wont startup. One beep followed by two short

Not sure where you got your information on the error codes but it is partly correct, it is video related, but it isn't the video card but rather the memory location in the ram that is used by the video card. You could try to remove the ram memory clean and re-seat it on the mother board and see if that fixes it, or if your motherboard has two or more ram memory modules, remove the memory and switch which sockets you replace them in (make sure you keep track of the original position of the modules because on some rare motherboards you have to use the memory in a picky order) after mixing up the memory modules check for a boot again, if this corrects the booting then one of the memory modules is defective and may need replacing. Note when you take your memory into a computer shop be sure to use a static bag and proper static precautions.

I would like a motherboard and memory

All of these components may be purchased from a computer store. Alternatively search classified ads such as Gumtree and e-bay.

Take care!

Need step by step instruction on how to install new memory and BIOS updates on a gateway fx6800-01e.. i already upgraded win. to windows 7 pro...

for the BIOS update, you should go to the computer manufacturers website and click on the support link. I included a link to your models BIOS download page below..
http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=2298
download update and run.
For the memory, here's a link to the type for your model..
http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=FX6800-01e&pl=Gateway&cat=
to install - pop the cover off the case - look for the memory stick slots - push the two clips away to pop the memory sticks up - then replace with the new sticks and push down with your thumbs until they click in. included an image of a motherboard to help you locate memory slots.dynamic.jpghope it helps.

Gateway 300se install memory

Go to Crucial.com and place in your model number and they will tell you what kind and max size of memory your machine takes. Remember to keep yourself grounded to the Pc when installing the memory or it can destroy your chips inside with static electricity.

Have a friend (senior citizen-fixed income) using Gateway TBR3450 PIII W98 and needs new Printer that will only work with W2000/ME/XP. I'll do the XP update for her but I want the original PC specs...

It's a while since I used Win 98, but as far as I remember, if you right-click the My Computer icon and select 'properties' the processor type, bus speed and memory info are listed on the General tab.

Go to the Hardware tab, click 'Device Manager' and from there you can find details of all the installed hardware.

Hope this helps,

Matt.
