Question about ASUS P5PE-VM Motherboard

1 Answer

Power Reaching the MB but NOT reaching the cpu fan

I am attempting to build a new computer system and have a ASUS m2A-Vm motherboard with 4 one gig sticks of corsair ddr2 cm2x1024-6400 5-5-5-12 memory running at 800MHz. I Have already installed an AMD 64 x2 4400 cpu and have a Thermaltake tr2-r1 cpu fan. The 450 Watt Okia atx power suppply supports PIV and AMD processors. Thermal grease WAS used in seating cpu with fan. The CPU and MB are supposed to be very compatabile as they were sold as a package.

Problem is: Although power is indeed reaching the MB as lit up green led indicates, it is NOT reaching the CPU fan. I am begining to wonder if this type fan is compatabile with this type board. Any information you could offer would be very appreciated. Thank You for your assistance. I appreciate your help. Pete

You posted in the P5PE-VM area, but you say you have a M2A-VM. Which one is it?

Do you get any video response when you boot the PC? You should at least be able to get to the bios if the machine is booting properly.

Either replace the line to the fan (or get a new fan with a longer cord )or leave the side door of your CPU off a bit and maybe put a fan beside it.

I am installing a new AM3 cpu, where can I get a bios upgrade?

As always the best place to get software or firmware downloads is the manufacturer's website.
For asus.
the site is support.asus.com
Select your hardware type (Motherboards) Select your socket type (AM2) Select your product (m2a-vm) Select your OS in the popup Download the newest firmware.
(NOTE: DO NOT interrupt firmware flashes and follow ALL instructions carefully)
Good Luck

Hi , Has your MB Sufferd any power Surges , Power Trips , or Shorting with Case of some sort? if so then your Motherboard is Burnt out , Try see if you can see any burnt marks , or Burst Capacitors .As soon as your CPU Fan runs , but your MB isnt running , you know its getting power ..So your motherboard is Burnt out, ASUS boards are very commonly , Burning out.I recently Sent mine back to ASUS because it burnt out..Also if you are going to take it in , make sure you have a proper qaulified Techie Checking it , otherwise they report that your CPU and PSU is also burnt out , and try get you to buy new from them...Becareful of that , its very common where im from.

Hope this Helps
Thanks
