Which graphics card?

I have an asus p5gl-mx motherboard with a pci-e16 slot, does this mean all graphics cards with pci-e16 compatibily can be used? I know for cpu even though the slot is the same many newer cpus with more than one core cant be used and i was wondering if that was the case for the gfx card too. If not could someone recommend a cheap one to buy at newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048%201069609641&bop=And&Order=RATING#  that would go nicely with my current rig, 2.66 GHz oced to 3.05 and 1.5 gb of ram, thanks.

ah ok thanks, but pcie 1.1 cant read as fast as 2.0 so it would be running the gfx card at a slower speed right?

All the cards must be pci-e in order to work on your motherboard. You have to set also that in your bios. (if auto function is disabled)

Yes. Any PCIe-16 can be used in the slot...even if the card is PCIe 2.0 it is backward compatible with PCIe 1.1.

Of course, I was referring to PCIeX16...

If your Mobo has a 2.0 slot, then by all means use a 2.0 card. It has advantages like higher throughput, but with most of today's software and hardware, the difference is hard to spot. With as quickly as things change, however, it is nice to be prepared for the future knowing that you don't have to upgrade too soon. Any PCIE video card will work in the slot provided, although some larger cooled ones may stop you using pci slot 1.

No video output. what video cards are compatible?

Hello,

Your MB takes a PCI Express x16 (max. 2GB/s, x4 mode) video card.

Please note the warning in your manual on Page 1-22 about using "Qualified" graphics cards. Here is a link to your manual:

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5GL-MX/e2222_p5gl-mx.pdf

If you are not getting video, have you tried to reinstall the VGA driver? Just a thought. You can get it by typing your model number into the search box on the Asus support site.(Just use P5GL-MX.)

What memory stick and graphic cards to get

Your motherboard has 3 PCI slots. Any card you install can only be a regular PCI card.

The RAM in your motherboard has to be DDR (333 or 400) 184 pin DIMM's.

Here is a link for your motherboard manual:

Layout pic is on page 1-7. Info on your memory is on page 1-15.

Memory Issues with P5GL - MX

Some motherboards require that you install the memory in matched pairs. That could explain why they won't work together.

When you put the 1 GB in alone, what slot did you put it in?
I would suggest the blue A1 slot (closest to the CPU).

It may be that you have a bad memory module.
You could try the Windows Memory Diagnostic:

For ASUS A8V-MX Motherboard which graphics card should use

This Motherboard has onboard VGA, but if you want to upgrade the expansion slot is a AGP. so you will have to purchase a AGP VGA card. ATi or Nvidia would be good enough.

Which graphics card?

You can use any PCI-E graphics card in this slot. This motherboard is limited to x4 on this slot though. Any board will FIT, but they will be running four times slower.

Yes you can use either Geforce 7300 or 7600 on this motherboard they are compatible with it, there shouldn't be any compatibility issue abetween this MOBO and any of those video cards...

Hope that helps...........

Replacing the onboard graphics card

Friend,
There are three PCI slots on yoyr motherboard. You can add any PCI VGA card to your board. After adding the VGA goto BIOS setup and make ON BOARD VGA DISABLED.
