HP Photosmart C4380 not printing

I have a HP c4380 that is not printing, everytime I try to print I get an Error in the print que. I have Vista and am currently wireless. I have tried to connect to the printer but it still won't work. I'm very frustrated.

    My c4380 printer won't print. I also have a Windows Vista laptop. It quit in the middle of a wireless print sequence and refuses to start, even after rebooting both computer and printer.

Does the computer make a 2 pitched noise when you put the USB cable in w/ the printer on?

    Another thing to always try is restarting computer--Vista should automatically recognize the printer if it's plugged into the USB and on.

Is the printer connected to your system with a USB cable? If so, try these steps
Go to:
Start -> Run
type in "control" without the quotes, and hit OK.
Go to Printers & Faxes icon.
Find your printer, does it say "Offline" underneath it? If so, right click on it and hit Use Printer Online

Double click on your printer, there shouldn't be anything listed in the window that pops up. If there is, go to Printer at the top of the window and select Cancel All Documents. This should clear out the queue. If it doesn't, reboot. Sometimes it needs to be reset to clear everything out.

If that doesn't work, check the port:

Select your printer by right clicking on it and going to Properties (Last item in the list). Click on the Ports tab at the top. What is it set to? Generally, it should be USB001, maybe USB002. If it is set to LPT1, change this back to USB001. This is assuming you are using a USB cable. If it is connected with a Parallel cable, you'll choose LPT1.

If this is set correctly, try changing the port on the back of your computer that the printer is hooked up to. Try a different USB cable. Also try unplugging the power from your printer and plugging it back in. Maybe it just needs a good old fashioned restarting. Try restarting the computer, even.

Failing all this, I would try another USB device plugged into the same port with the same cable as the printer. If it works, you know the USB ports on your system aren't broken. In this case, it is most likely the printer itself and would need to be replaced.

try reset printer network settings and test again, and check for any high power electronics, nearby printer. because the magnectic fied is a wireless wall that reduces wireless signal.

Install and run the HP Print Diagnostic Utility from here
Please follow the onscreen instructions and restart the computer if necessary.
This will mostly resolve the issue.

You should be able to re align the printheads using the software package on the computer which you installed whenn you installed the printer

Can my HP Photosmart C4380 support Microsoft Office Professional 2007 Fax and Scan? Or must the HP fax and scan only be used?


Sorry, Fax and Scan is part of Windows Vista not MS Office. I have been advised by PC World team that this printer (HP Photosmart C4380) does not have the necessary drivers to support Vista Fax and Scan wirelessly and can only operate with the HP Fax and Scan which is very basic and only seems to function via USB cable, not wirelessly. Update drivers may become available.
