Move dvd to movie maker

I need to get a movie taken from a mini dvd recorder to edit in movie maker... how do I do it?

I'm having a problem with my Sony handycam 105 dvds in Windows Movie Maker. Windows Media Player will play my mini dvds OK, but I want to be able to save them and edit them in WMM. I read on another forum that you have to use something like DVD shrink to compress the DVD before using WMM, is that right? I've been stumped on this for 3 days now, still unable to get my dvd's to work in WMM. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tim

Finalise the disk in your camera. Run WMM and insert the disk in to the PC's drive. In WMM under "Capture Video" select "Import". Click "My Computer" on the next prompt and then click your DVD drive. That will get you started - use Help to find your way around WMM which allows you to write your edited video to CD/DVD etc. Have fun!

Hi I would like to down load onto a dvd the film I have captured

Hello,
There are several solution for this issue.
  1. connect to a computer through firewire(IEEE1394) and download to an editing software e.g Windows movie maker native with windows or third party software such as Adobe premiere. Some editing is required to top and tail your video and export as a suitable file for making DVD. import into Nero or Roxio for final burn in DVD format.
  2. If you have access to a DVD recorder, connect camera to DVD recorder through Firewire cable and make DVD straight away.Do not forget to finilise the disc for compatibility with other DVd players.
Hope this helps

Mini-DVD playback

http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0900000562/DC210NIM-EN.pdf here is the manual look on page 62 for playback on a pc. you need a dvdrom drive. if you have one make sure you have software like windows media player 10 or 11, or powerdvd to play the movie. as for editing the video is a little bit more tricky. you are going to have to "rip" the video and then combine it in a program like windows movie maker with the other dvd that has been ripped too. when you are done editing in windows movie maker just choose avi or dvd type.

Editing videos taken from canon dc100 camcorder

I see here that . . .

"The DC100 takes 3-inch Mini DVD-R/RW discs, and like most of its competitors, can fit about 20 minutes of best-quality video on one. If you choose to initialize a disc for playing in a standalone player, the camcorder writes standard VOB files; if you initialize for future editability, it records in the VRO format. Windows Media Player can play the latter if you rename the file with an MPG extension, however the aspect-ratio information gets lost--that info is encoded into a separate file--so 16:9 video will get squashed into 4:3. "

Cnet Reviews.

Your videos are recorded in the common DVD format called MP2.
They have the extention .MPG so if you copy the video files to your computer, and change the end of the filename from VOB, or VRO to an MPG then your software can recognize it as the MP2 format that it is.

There is a Windows XP program, called Windows Movie Maker, it can open your video files and provide you with most of the video editing tools.

Cheers.
