Re: How do I get my videos from tape to my PC?

Check what kind of interface that your camera have, these are the possiblities: Hardware powwibilities: 1. i-link or firewire or IEEE-1394: all three are the same depending on the brand. This is the common woth DV cameras. If you have this, you have to have the same interface in your PC. You have to install an interface card. 2. USB 2.0- it has to be 2.0, ver 1.1 is slow and will not be capable of hi res transfer. If you have this, your PC should have this interface as well. 3. Analog AV- Here you have to buy a video capture card, it may be via USB or PCI slot. In any of the setup you will be needing a video authoring software. There are a lot available in the net and it is also free when you buy a video capure card or module. After you capture the video, you have to burn it in the DVD, you can use Nero. There are plenty of discussions, problems and solution in

Can I transfer video tapes onto CD's

A lot depends on what type of video tape you use and where do you want to play the DVDs (CDs are for audio recording only). If tape is compact VHS then you can buy a simple DVD Recorder VHS VCR combo player and transfer across easily provided you have the compact VHS cassette module.

For other type of video camera tapes you will have to try other methods like connect camera with tape to a DVD recorder and directly burn the DVDs. You can buy attachments and software for PC but I have found these very cumbersome to work with.

Video tape to DVD conversion

There appears to be quite a few problems with people trying to convert their video tapes to DVD using a PC and propriety converters, editing programmes etc.

Friends have also has such issues, lip synch being one of the most prolific.

I've successfully converted mine, without too much issue and managed to avoid these issues.

I hook up my VHS recorder with a DVD recorder2_bing.gif which also has a HDD. Daisy chaining it on to a TV to monitor. All with scart leads.

Play the tape, record to the DVD hard drive. Finally edit and dub to DVD.

Welcome to FixYa!

Copying from TAPE to PC requires 4 things. The video cam where the TAPE will be played, a FIREWIRE compatible cable, a FIREWIRE card installed on your computer and a SOFTWARE that supports a firewire device that would record the video.

Unlike Digital Videos that you can just copy and paste the video file from the video cam to the computer, the tape to pc transfer is more of recording the video in from the video cam by playing it in real time while the computer is recording it.

This is a sample of a FIREWIRE card that is installed inside a computer.
An external USB version of this is also available.

This is a sample of a FIREWIRE cable.

Windows MOVIE MAKER is an example of a software that can be used to record the videos. It supports FIREWIRE devices.

Here's a sample video.

How can i transfer a trv36 hi8 tape to a dvd

Your camera uses the rca cable to connect too your TV right,
then get a DVD recorder that has an RCA input and select the input channel. Hit record on the DVD recorder then Play on the Camera.

It will record realtime you may aswell enjoy your home video as you record it.

I would STRONGLY advise not to record through a PC using USB... You will drop alot of frames this was as these USB's dont process video fast enough.

How do I copy a video from tape to SD card on my Canon MVX25i? As you cannot directly download to PC from the tape I tried recording the video to a DVD on my DVD recorder - although that worked the PC nor...

as far as I know, you can only save photos on the SD card.
You can capture the video from the tape to your PC via Firewire interface, connect the Firewire cable to the DV connector on your camera and your computer's firewire port and capture it with a program called WinDV.
About the DVD recorder, often it it the case with them that you have to 'finalize' the DVD before it can be read on a PC/Mac

I have an old Samsung VP-A30 video camera with loads of 8mm tapes, and would like to transfer to either TV/Video/PC. Unfortunately, there seems to be just one AV output source, which feels rather fragile,...

Hello Ron,
Well that is like you say an old camera, mind you 8mm is still far the best and safest way to store your valued films as it has kept the data on those tapes longer than any DVD ever did, remember unlike we thought 10 years ago a DVD only has around 8 to 10 years life span, we are finding CD & DVD productions that are over 8 years old just wont play any longer.
Kodak put a report on the net 7 years ago that they found even some quite costly DVD recorded media had gone blank and refused to play after a very short time in storage.
I think you ought to look around Ebay, find a nice HI8 digital camera, put your loved tapes in that, plug the new Firewire cable into the camera, and your PC and download your treasured items to another media like DVD.
Keep your 8mm tapes in a draw safe though because they will out-live all DVD recordings I can honestly say that.

Need to transfer order VCR-C tapes to DVD How

You will need to borrow or buy a DVD-Recorder, either way it's best to follow the manuals instructions on how to connect your camcorder (external device) to the DVD Recorder for Recording to DVD. Most camcorders come with a set of AV (audio/video) Cables for this purpose. On your camcorder you will find a little rubber door that houses the terminals to connect your cables to. Depending on how old your camcorder is you will find a Yellow (video) and a White (audio) and on the newer ones that have stereo will have a Red (audio), all these connections are video and audio Out-Inputs and should be connected to the Video and Audio "In" terminals on the back of the DVD Recorder. Now make sure your battery is fully charged (It's best here to use an AC Adapter for your power supply instead of your battery, which also usually comes with your camcorder if bought new.) and that your VCR-C tape is loaded and completely re-wound. Now if you want to watch this on your TV while you are recording to'll need another set of AV Cables that come with a new DVD-Recorder, and hook these cables on the Out-terminals on the back of the DVD- Recorder and the other end of the cables to your TV's Video/Audio-IN terminals on the back of the set. Finally...Set your camcorder switch for Playback, turn on the DVD Recorder, And turn on your TV. Now you can go ahead and record all your VCR-C tapes to DVD! Any other questions? Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?

In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.

Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.

If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.
