Printer 948 false paper jam

My dell printer 948 says it has a paper jam when it does not. it won't print. i've tried the hard reset you suggested but can't get at the rollers to check for any probs there. i've also tried taking out the power pack and cleaning out inside, but no luck. if you could please help i'd be very grateful.

I have tried the suggestions listed: heavy paper ( did not go through at all and really got stuck)

a virgorous skaking ( some better- though nothing was forth coming)

The feeder pulls to the right - jams the paper before it gets to the print roller and refuses to feed through.

This just started today was working fine.

If anyone has addition suggestions I will give that a try other than that does anyone know how to take the machine apart?

My dell 948 was working just fine, I have had it for about a year. Then, I used a heavier paper to print from it and it began with the error message of "paper jam" nothing I did resolved the problem. I was online with tech support for hours cleaning rollers. Eventually they just sent me a new one.

Tonight, I fixed my neighbor's Dell 948 printer with false paper jam.

After you lift open the top, look below the shiny bar that the Print Head slides left/right on. You'll see a row of 8 tiny rollers. In between the middle two rollers (rollers #4 and #5 from the left), look for a small plastic tab sticking up between them. Touch this tab with the tip of a ball-point pen to see if it pushes down. If it does, then push the "checkmark" button on the control panel.

That's what I did to fix my neighbor's printer.

Sincerely,
John

Oh my gosh...you are a ROCK STAR!!! My friend who works with copiers all day long couldn't figure it out. Dell's website and troubleshooting was no help. Your solution worked like a charm and I was able to scan my doc and get rid of that annoying flashing exclamation point! You are AWESOME!!! Thanks so much for the help!!!

    Grateful in Califirnia

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed throught the printer. The reason for this, in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time. Worth a try. I have fixed a number of printers this way saving costly repairs. Bud

I have a dell 948 all in one printer, clear paper jam then press check. There is no paper jam. I have follow instruction and site recommendation, ran printer software, problem still exist, please help

This is a known issue with Dell all in ones.

It's a problem with the power supply inside the unit.

If you were in the middle of a print job, though, and it jammed, do recheck as I've been caught out
with a paper jam where a tiny partical of paper was doing the jam. Look carefully before contacting Dell support.

Paper jam

Here are some useful steps you can try:

try to power cycle the printer for about 2 mins. then try a test print with just single paper

Make sure that the paper is aligned properly.

You can also check if there's any foreign object stuck inside the printer

If you are able to reach the paper roller on the printer, try cleaning it.

Lastly turn off you printer, try to lift your printer up, put it in an upside down position
then shake it from left to right for about a min. then turn the printer on again
try a test print.

If none of this steps resolved the problem
then the issue is with the printer itself.

Hope this helps.

I have a dell 948 printer and says there is a paper jam and there is no paper in it. I have unplugged it and restarted it still says paper jam. Is there a reset button? How do i get rid of paper jam???

Hello there You may not see a paper jam.
This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Also clean The purge unit, called a spittoon assembly in an HP, Lexmark, Caonon and other inkjet printers, is where the print head assembly parks when not in use, also its other job is to clean and make sure the print head is clean and open for printing.

That is where you'll find the print head assembly parked on top of it.
It also has an electrical pump to milk the print heads and test for ink flow.

So clean all under where the heads are parked and on IP6600D models you can take out the heads just by clipping them out, and then clean well.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

My Dell 924 printer starts pulling the paper sideways but then jams and won't print. Does anybody know how to clear this? Is there something that I can reset?

Hi,
Unplug the power adapter from the printer and then remove the papers from the printer , open the printer cover and look for any obstructions , lift the printer and shake it firmly, turn the printer upside down and gently tab on it , roll the paper tray rollers manually , put back the power adapter and then try printing a document with only one paper in the paper tray if it still gives the same error then its an issue with the printer and if the printer is under warranty then get the printer replaced.

First I had a paper jam message on my Dell 948 printer when there wasnt one. Now that I fixed that with another post it says load paper when there is paper in there and pulls to the right when trying to...

This is sort of scenario is usually caused by dust inside the printer. Dust has a way of preventing the sensors from detecting paper. Also it prevents the rollers from having a firm grip on the paper while picking paper. I will suggest you get a long handle brush and try to reach as far inside the printer as possible and brush (from the back and front). After blowing, if you have a blower you may also use it to blow well into the interior of the printer (If you do not have a blower the brushing will still do if you do it well.) This, if properly done should do it. Brush especially the rollers etc.
