The C340 works with SD cards, which top out at 2GB. Your new 4GB cards are actually SDHC cards. While they fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work with this camera. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

SOURCE: Memory Card Requires Formatting

Hey B418,
Formatting will delete all your pictures on your camera or memory card. The camera might be prompting you to format because the the camera's memory is full. To avoid losing your pictures I would connect your camera to a computer, download your images to your computer first, and then format the memory.

Sincerely,
Allan

SOURCE: just bought a 4gb kodak

No way-that model will not support a 4gb card-yes it may fit but camera is to0 old for newer sdhc cards-go back to 1 or 2 gb max and no problems! 4gb only work on cameras within last 2 years

SOURCE: Won't format new memory card

Your camera is not SDHC compatible. It will only support standard SD cards. Sorry.

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: My Kodak P850 do not accept SD cards 4 or 8GB,

Technically speaking, SD cards only go up to 2GB. (Actually, some very rare 4GB SD cards exist, but I doubt you have one of those.) Cards 4GB and up are SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) cards. Your camera was designed before the SDHC specs, and thus is not compatible with SDHC cards. This is not something that can be changed in firmware, since there is a hardware compatibility issue.

SDHC devices will accept SD cards, but the opposite does not hold true. SD devices will not accept SDHC cards.

SOURCE: How can you format a SD 4gb card for the Kodak

You can't. The Z612 uses SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) card and is incompatible with SD devices.

For SD cards (2GB and smaller), you'll find the Format operation in the Setup menu. Press the Menu button, then use up/down to select the wrench, then press OK.

My Kodak EasyShare V530, won't accept a memory card, you insert a memory card, and it doesn't even acknowledge that there is a memory card inserted.

I bet the memory card that you're inserting is a brand new 4GB SDHC card (your camera can only use 2GB or less standard SD cards). There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Other causes include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

Trying to format a media card 4gb and my kodak easyshare does not allow me to do that. am I forgetting something?

The Z730 works with MMC and SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to stay with cards 2GB and smaller.

I have not been able to format a scandisk memory card into my Easyshare kodak camera z612

The problem is that your camera is only compatible with SD cards, not SDHC cards. You bought a larger card for your older camera, not noticing that it was SDHC (or not knowing that it mattered). The new card can't be formatted, not because it or the camera is broken, but because it's not compatible.

Cards up to 2Gb are generally SD.
Cards of 4Gb are generally SDHC.
Cards over 8Gb have to be SDHC.

(There are exceptions. Sometimes, manufacturers make 4Gb SDHC cards but some have errors; they disable half of the chip and sell it as 2Gb, but it's still SDHC. 4Gb cards are almost always SDHC because they're cheaper, but 4Gb SD cards do exist. They are so rare that I've even seen a guru on this site claim they don't. I did own one once, but it was very expensive and turned out to be so unreliable that I had to return it. I don't recommend looking for one, because of the problems.)

Your solution is to go find a 2Gb card, and be extra sure that it doesn't say "SDHC" on it.

Need to format my 4GB sdhc memory card to my Kodak easyshare cx7430....any ideas

I've tried a 4GB memory card in my Kodak CX7430 camera and it doesn't work. I've been able to use any size up to 2GB so I'd suggest going to a 2GB card.

Cant get my camera to format a memory card

agreeing with fixer1950. This model is in fact just designed for up to 2GB SD or MMC card.

When Easyshare one was released, 4gb SDHC was not yet created. You will always get the "memory card requires formatting" (looping until you get a file sys error msg) if you will keep on trying to use the 4gb.

Formatting a HP 4GB Memory card

The best thing that you can do is to try to format the card from a laptop with a built in card port or use a card reader and format it on your computer.
