It may not be the main battery that's causing the problem. There is a small button battery on the motherboard of all computers and this ensures correct system time.

You probably need to replace this.

The clock on the laptop does not keep the right

Why does the clock on my laptop keep incorrect time? Your laptop has two or more clocks, and FreeBSD has chosen to use the wrong one.
Run dmesg(8), and check for lines that contain Timecounter. The last line printed is the one that FreeBSD chose, and will almost certainly be TSC.
# dmesg | grep Timecounter
Timecounter "i8254" frequency 1193182 Hz
Timecounter "TSC" frequency 595573479 Hz
You can confirm this by checking the kern.timecounter.hardware sysctl(3).
# sysctl kern.timecounter.hardware
kern.timecounter.hardware: TSC
The BIOS may modify the TSC clock--perhaps to change the speed of the processor when running from batteries, or going into a power saving mode, but FreeBSD is unaware of these adjustments, and appears to gain or lose time.
In this example, the i8254 clock is also available, and can be selected by writing its name to the kern.timecounter.hardware sysctl(3).
# sysctl -w kern.timecounter.hardware=i8254
kern.timecounter.hardware: TSC -> i8254
Your laptop should now start keeping more accurate time.
To have this change automatically run at boot time, add the following line to /etc/sysctl.conf.
kern.timecounter.hardware=i8254

Or

Take it back to the place where you purchased it and explain the
situation to them as it is still under warranty.

Battery not charging properly after being on mains supply for enough time to be at 100%. once off mains supply, battery charge is only 10-15% so lasts about 10mins

It's time to either replace the battery:
* if it's still under warranty, get it replaced;
* buy a new one from Toshiba;
* buy a compatible one via www.ebay.com ;

or to find a company that will:

* receive the battery that you shipped to them,
* disassemble it,
* replace the rechargable cells,
* reassemble it,
* ship it back to you.

Sony vaio vgn-fs775p laptop real time clock not keeping time

Hi

thank you for your query

If the time is not keeping up then it would seem that you will need to change your CMOS battery, this is a small battery found on the motherboard responsible for clocking etc

The battery is cheap to purchase, however I do highly recommned the laptop be booked into a reputable PC shop for replacement as you will need to take the whole laptop apart to get the motherboard

I hope this has been helpful

Hi,the clock my acer aspire5630 stops as soon as it is powered down? Could it be internal battery ? If yes how do you replace? Thanks

yes the problem is with your internal battery..don't take the risk to replace it yourself..contact your customer support or the shop where you bought it.

How long should battery for a sony vaio-ns pc/laptop last?charge?

battery life is always dependent on what "settings" you have for the "power" (the icon of the battery, next to the clock), and also how do you use the system. for example if you use it gaming kiss you battery lasting goodbye, if you use it for business, and like your screen very bright, your battery drains faster, if you are using you laptop and NOT using the wireless (not browsing the internet wirelessly), turn that wireless OFF, and ON when only you need it. BUT typically 2 hours tends to be fair among laptops. (some of them claim to last 8 hours, but again we might be talking mac here).
are u supposed to keep battery plugged in? well, if you are in the office, i would say yes, since u never know when u need to leave and need it on the go.
would you wait until battery is almost drained and then recharge? I would not recommend it. note, if you do, make sure you allow enough time for "warning" before you computer goes to hybernate, or just shut down (settings in the power settings, icon of battery on the bottom right) or from the control panel.
good luck.

Inspiron laptop clock incorrect

Go into the BIOS by turning on the laptop and pressing F2. In there i believe on the main screen you can change the time and date. Do that, save changes and exit and then go into windows and see if it keeps the right time and date.

Let me know how it goes.

Clock not keeping correct time

The CMOS battery keeps the laptop configuration stored in the CMOS chip and the main battery has no effect on the CMOS.
If the date and time drift off, it indicates the CMOS battery is nearly flat and needs to be replaced.
If you had ticked the Daylight saving box in the Time Zone tab in Control Panel - Date and Time setting then the time would automatically adjust for Daylight saving.
