TP valves screw into 3/4" opening.
End of probe MUST extend into upper part of tank, and cannot be located on pipe away from main body of heated water.

New installation I tightened relief valve and it sits right over wiring connections. If I turn it back it feels loose but no leak so far?

The relief valve is supposed to have a 3/4 line leading away and down to 9" from the floor . That said if it is loose, tighten it slightly and then run piping away from the controls.

Leaking relief valve on hot water tank

It is 3/4 threads and it can be replaced any hardware store should have one. It may require a pipe wrench to break loose. they do go bad from time to time.

Shut water off and drain water down below relief valve opening and break loose to replace..

The pressure relief valve only leaks when there is excess pressure in the system, possible causes could be excessive static pressure, overheating, faulty pressure vessel or undersized pressure vessel.

Gas water heater is discharging out the pressure relief valve? what problems do i have?

The water heater is over heating the water, possibly boiling it and causing steam pressure build up. The thermostat is not sensing the temp to shut off the flame. It would be wise to either have a repairman come out or replace the heater. If pressure builds too high and the relief valve cand keep up ,theer could be a rupure of a water lineSoooooooooooo, turn the gas off and git er done.
