Question about Chainsaws

1 Answer

Chain come off chainsaw

This chainsaw is less than four mounths old. The chain will not stay on it. I have done everything I know to fix this, including taking it to a repairman. The repairman said he could not fix it. Now I have a new chainsaw that I can't use and is not paid for yet.

2 questions first the repairman did he tell you why he could not repair and also if this is a new saw I would take it back for warranty repair or replacement. But enough of that is the bar bent or twisted? Are there debris in the bar not allowing the chain to seat fully, and are you tensioning the bar properly? Let me know and I will dig into it deeper.

I hate to say it but that usually means that the inside gear of the clutch is wourpt were the chain sits, if your still paying for it i would bring it back to where you bought it and get a new one.

Do I need to drain the chain oil out of my electric chainsaw after each use?

Never drain the chain oil - it is unnecessary.

I dont know the fuel ratio for my chain saw

50:1 is the ratio recommend. Some older saws recommended 40:1. If yours is less than 10 years old, go with 50:1.

I have a 1600w electric black & decker chainsaw recently purchased that simply takes forever to cut the smallest of logs. Is this the norm?

Hi there Bugs,

Definitely not the norm. I'm guessing that although it was recently purchased, it was used?

It will either need a new chain or have the old one professionally sharpened. You didn't mention bar size, but a new chain should be between $18-30.00.

A less expensive alternative would be a small engine repair shop that services chainsaws. Most also have reconditioned chains for sale.

Eight days ago I picked up a 19" bar banana bar and used chain for $15.00 total to finish some oak. It Rocks.

Try the chain change. Difference? Night and Day.

Best regards
Mike

I have a Homelite Chainsaw 45cc Power Stroke. Model No. UT10946D. The chain brake is always applied. Brake lever will not latch in the released position. I've disassembled it and do not see anything...

I have the same model (ut10946d) and used it for less than 2 tanks of gas when the chain froze. I noticed it was slowing down and it seemed like the chain brake was not disengaging and staying in the "unlocked" position.
I took the tool apart today and found that the band that rubs on the clutch to stop the chain was dragging on the clutch because it doesn't disengage all the way. The heat from the friction melted the plastic parts around the clutch housing and crankshaft. So now I have a chainsaw that I bought new, used for less than an hour, and is now junk due to poor design and/or product control.

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HOMELITE GAS POWERED TOOL AS LONG AS I LIVE. THEY ARE PURE JUNK!

My solution, call homelite and complain about it, maybe they'll stand behind their design flaws - but I doubt it.

WeedEater Edger PE550 Starter Rope will not recoil

Order a new recoil spring from your suppier. It comes wound up. Remove the old part first usually four screws on the outside. Make sure the rope is fully wound then insert the new spring and reassamble. If it becomes unwound by mistake its a labourious job to rewind but can be done.
