SOURCE: Samsung Syncmaster 245BW, can't get it up and running !

Most of the time when this happens it is due to a bad monitor, if you have another pc try to hook this monitor up to that one to see if it actually works, these monitors sometimes get damaged during shipment!

A computer monitor is not truly designed for the purpose you have in mind

As far as the VGA connector is concerned it is still meant for connection to a COMPUTER

The same for the HDMI.

We are seeing this problem more and more as people look at the price rather than its intended use.

A TV is a TV.
Yes you can hook up some external components as you have done but the only way i have seen it work is by the following and is not 100% guaranteed to work in all situations.

Turn off the device you no longer wish to watch using the remote
Turn off the monitor
Turn on the device you wish to watch using its remote
Turn on the monitor.

The only reason that method works at all is that some monitors auto detect which input actually has a signal on it.

You can buy switching boxes also if you don't mind adding to the amount of cables etc. Remote switches may cost quite a bit more than a manual one.

This is the ONLY answer I can give you. Your monitor does not have a remote and the reason for that is that it is not a TV.

It would be very decent of you to consider the quality of our experts answers and judge them accordingly as you pass through FIXYA.

Thank you

SOURCE: samsung syncmaster 2033sw monitor, till

LCD Monitors having multiple inputs have option and option to select and switch between the displays from analog (VGA) or Digital (DVI) inputs. Go to the LCD menu and select input source (DVI)

Hope this helps!

Screen says check signal cable - have check my cables....

Not really...

First check if the cable connected from the monitor is secured and properly connected to the video card of the CPU.

"Check signal cable" will only be display if there is no signal coming from the CPU.. that signal Passes through the video card..

Check the status of your video card.....and see also if the CPU is working and not dead set.

Hope this help...
