My Advent 5421 Touchpad Is Not Working!!!

Advent laptop computers are equipped with a touchpad and two buttons that service the function of an external mouse. The touchpad can be turned on or deactivated, depending on the user's preference. It's not difficult to either activate or deactivate it.

Power up the computer. Connect a plug-and-play computer mouse to a free USB port on the laptop. The mouse is just temporary to help you get the touchpad working again. Locate the touchpad icon, which is in the lower right-hand side of the screen. The icon will appear as a gray square or rectangle, with two rectangular buttons underneath. Use the mouse to double-click on the touchpad icon, opening a window on your laptop screen. Inside the touchpad window, click the option labeled "Enable Device". Select other options for the touchpad, such as pointer speed and shape. Click "Apply", then "OK". Disconnect the mouse from the laptop.

Image pad light comes on ocassionally, lap top freezes, can not turn off. HP Envy Windows 7

Good Day,
For clarifications, is it that the computer freezes or the mouse pad doesn't work again while the keyboard still works?
Because for your type of laptop, around the top left corner of your mouse pad, there is a small hollow. If you double tap this place, you deactivate the mouse pad and if you repeat the tapping, you activate it. That's why the light there comes on and off. So may be you check it to know if you tap here during your typing.
I hope this helps you? Thank you for using Fizya!

Laptop starts up but my cursor does not move

Hi, Maybe you deactivated it by mistake some laptop models have a button to activate and deactivate the mouse(touchpad) make sure yours is activated, if the problem is not that, then try re installing the touchpad drivers. You can find the drivers in the manufacturer home page. Take some time to rate me.

Touch pad doesn't work AT ALL!!!!

Hello there, Kasie!

Hopefully I can help. On laptops, there will *usually* be a "function button" one can press to disable the touchpad in the even that one wishes to use an actual mouse instead of the touchpad. -- This would be in the interest of not accidentally triggering clicks, or mouse movement when typing, etc.

Without knowing the make and model of your laptop, I can't tell you the precise button to press to re-activate your touchpad. On most laptops, you'll need to hold down the "Fn" key (usually at the bottom left or right of the keyboard) and then find the function key (top row of keys... F1, F2, F3, F4 and so-forth)... Look at your function key row. See if there is perhaps a key with a little "drawing on it" that looks like a touchpad.. like a horizontal rectangle with 2 smaller squares under the rectangle, representing the rectangular shape of the touchpad and the two "mouse buttons" beneath it... if you find something like this, it will likely be the one you'll need to press.

However, on some laptops, the button will be just above your touchpad... you'll be able to press it, and some sort of indicator light will either light up in red to let you know it's been deactivated, or white / green to let you know that it's currently activated.

One of my laptops which is an HP has the button at the top left corner of my touchpad.. I have to "double-tap" it to deactivate / reactivate the touchpad; while my Toshiba laptop has a button directly above the touchpad which I only have to press once. -- Both laptops have an indicator light as well. The HP's "double-tap button" will turn red / dark orange to let me know that I've deactivated it... With the Toshiba laptop, there is a light just below the touchpad area which is always lit up as a "bright white light bar" when active and simply not lit up when deactivated.

I wish you the best of luck with this, and hope I've helped you!

You should find it in the BIOS, then just head to device configuration and you should be able to Enable/Disable it from there.

Cursor in laptop freezed

there are a few different ways that the touchpad can be deactivated especially if your notebook was pre-loaded with bulky management software.
First of all, most notebooks have a function shortcut for this. On mine it is function + F9. You should be able to see a picture on the keys that will describe this.

Secondly, as you did not specify which operating system you are using (or you did but it is in the hidden at the end of the details!), I will try and give a generic response:

- open control panel
- navigate to "mouse"
- open the "device settings" tab or similar

does this display anything about being deactivated? If it does, just activate it!
