Question about HP HEWLETT-PACKARD Printer, Deskjet 1000, 5.5ppm, 25 SCap, Gray : CH340A

1 Answer

I have to reset my preferences every time I print even though I am doing numerous ones of the same size. Yesterday I had to go though the start menu to Devices and Printers every time. In the print preview it showed the correct way I wanted it. When I hit the print it told me it was not going to fit, ask me if I still wanted to continue. I clicked yes and it changed the print from landscape to portrait. It was right, it didn't fit but I wanted landscape and told it to do it that way. I finally gave up.

There is basicly one default setting. Everything else is custom. To set a default apply your options after customizing. For instance I have mine set print in black and white always.

This has more to do with the driver installed on system. Different drivers / different printers may have settings and options that differ.

I am new at this service. I emailed in a question yesterday and you asked for more information. I have just recently installed a new hard drive on my computer. In using Quickbooks, I am not able to...

You'll need to go into your printer's preferences when you print from quickbooks by clicking "Properties" in the print dialog. Then search through your paper sizes to find one that is check sized. If you cannot find it, add another paper size that is 6? x 3.75?, which is the size of a check. You might want to cut out a few check-sized pieces of paper to test your settings/margins on, so you're not ruining checks.

My mother has the canon pixma mx310 all-in-one. She tried to use the scanner tonight, and it randomly didn't work (it did not long ago). It said something about maintenance and to try when it is finished....

A web search suggested thihs would be the reason for the 21140 code>

Issue: "The selected paper size is not supported by your printer..." appears after selecting the Paper Size in the printer driver.

Solution: Use Fit-to-Page Printing (Windows)

Use Fit-to-Page Printing (Windows) The Fit-to-Page function automatically resizes the image to fit the size of the page being used. Letter size image data, for example, will automatically be printed on 4" x 6" size paper. Paper sizes larger than the printer can handle will be available on the Page Setup of the printer driver but will not print unless the Fit-to-Page function is enabled. Note: The Fit-to-Page Printing function is not available when Borderless Printing is selected.
  1. Access the printing preferences by opening the printer Properties / Preferences:

    For Windows Vista
    • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'. Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the 'Control Panel'.
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.
    For Windows XP Home Edition
    • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, 'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and Faxes.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

    For Windows XP Professional Edition
    • Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Printers and Faxes.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

    For Windows 2000/Me/98
    • Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'
    • Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

  2. Click the Page Setup tab.

  3. Specify the 'Fit-to-Page Printing' settings.

    auto_resize_(windows)_2.gif

    (1) Select Fit-to-Page Printing.

    (2) Select the size of original document created in application program. Paper sizes larger than the printer can handle will be available.

    (3) Select the actual size of print media.

  4. Click 'OK'.

Hope this helps. Don't forget to vote. :)

The size of print that comes out of the printer is extremely small even though computer shows regular size. what do i do?

If you're printing an office document, then print size is regulated by the font size chosen in said document.

If you're printing a web page, I take it you have the "print" icon on your toolbar.

Click on the arrow down for the menu, select "Page setup" - Click on font and set the size of font to 10, 12 or whatever you're comfortable with.

I can not get the printer to print full page when printing from computer . it copies fine, i don't know how to reset the size

Click Start,on that menu should be Printers and Faxes.Click it and you get all your printers and faxes.Left column is Printing Preferences, click and pull up printing shortcuts.Make sure it's on "General everyday printing",if not click then click apply and OK.If it is,Go to "Features",this menu under resizing options should be "Letter".Just below that you want "print at actual size".Now,if you just feel like this is too overwhelming.Go to the bottom and press "Factory Presets" then Apply and OK.
Well,I hope this helps. If not re post and I'll do my best to help!Take care!

Not Printing. Reinstalled the software, reset printer to factory

If you are running Leopard, reset the printing system by control-clicking in the list of printers in the Print & Fax preference window. Then reinstall the drivers.
Apple Menu > System Preferences > Print & Fax. Control Click in the left area which shows the list of printers, and choose "reset the printing system"

Try checking for viruses or spyirus http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=SupportDetailAct&fcategoryid=257&modelid=11993 this is the site for your printer. If you select a size that cannot be selected in your printer, a message will display informing you that the setting has been changed to 'Fit-to-page' printing. Select 'Scaled Printing' again. 4. In 'Orientation', select the same orientation as specified in the application (either Portrait or Landscape). 5. In 'Printer Paper Size', select the paper size loaded in the printer. In 'Scaling', the magnification at which the document will print so as to fit exactly on the output paper size will appear as a reference value. 6. In 'Scaling', specify the percentage. You can select from 20% to 400%. 7. Click 'OK'. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim
