Inside the set is a block with a big red wire attached to it, that runs up to the side of the picture tube. On the side of this block are two controls. One will say "Focus" or have an "F' by it, and the other one will say "Screen" or have an 's" by it. With the TV set one, slowly turn up the screen control till you see thin white lines in the picture. Then back it down till the thin white lines go away. Rock the focus control back and forth to adjust and tweek the focus. You may have hit or moved the controls when cleaning the TV set. Be very carefull and please dont touch anything else, as there is alot of HIGH VOLTAGE inside this TV set. If that does not work good for you, unplug the set and make sure all of the plugs and connectors are pluged in straight and in all the way. Good Luck and let us know how you made out.

Accidentally set tv to display what appears to be closed captions during a program, not commercials - in Spanish, not my language - when searching for a way to have closed captioning. It displays on only...

You have a setting on the SETUP on your remote. You have the option to use English or Spanish. Somehow, you must have accidentally changed the language. I did this on one of my TV's.
Just go through the setup again.

Hopefully this will solve your problem.

Black square in middle of screen

Hello,

Most often, these "black box" problems are caused by Closed Captioning being on. There are different types (cc1, cc2, Text, etc.), and different ones interpret different types of closed captioning that are broadcast from the station. It is usually the TEXT ones that cause this problem, because the TV can't interpret the closed captioning symbols it is getting.

On your original TV remote, see if there is a button marker "close caption" or CC. Try pressing this button several times until "closed caption off" or OFF appears on the screen. If there is no button on the remote, then you have to get into the menu of the TV to find the closed caption and turn it off.

I hope this helps you...
