Question about HP Compaq Presario C304NR Notebook
The other day my son said that the power supply on the computer stopped working. The light would not come on and stay on. It seemed as though it may have shorted out.
He said he was able to boot it up for a short amount of time off the battery but it went in to the factory restore and then it shut down. I went and got a new power supply and all that happens is the power button keeps flashing rapidly and so does the lightning bolt on the front of the computer. The computer will not boot. I read that a gentleman had the same problem as what I am having and he replaced the Motherboard and that did not solve the problem. If it is not the Motherboard what else could it be?
Apart that replacing the motherboard on a laptop is a difficult and expensive operation, component inside must be tested, as the problem is not necessarily the motherboard.
Try first starting the laptop without the battery, and only power adapter.
If it still does not start, and the AC charger has the right voltage (the one written +- .5 on reading) the laptop must be taken apart and tested.
The most likely is that the AC socket on motherboard had shorted or another component near the socket had blown because of the original accident.
