Hi,
This error means that there is something obstructing the printing process. Check inside your printer through the gears that you can see under the lid. There should be something obstructing the gears such as dirt or even some paper caught underneath the rollers that you have to jiggle around to even see. Check very thoroughly..

Hope this helps

What does 5100 mean in canon mx310 series printer

There are several possibilities.

Have you changed out a ink cartridge lately? You can try and do a power reset by holding the power button for about 1 second until the machine powers down. You can also remove the power plug. Wait at least 30 seconds before turning the printer back on. Then wait for the printer to fully cycle before trying to print.

There are other possibilities. Let me know what has happened just before you saw this error code and I can give you more information.

There are a error massage check printers 5100

Error 5100 on Canon's usually means there is an obstruction in the printing path stopping the paper feeding properly, or the clear film sensor the cartridges use may be dirty.

Check inside your printer for any foreign objects and also see if the clear film sensor is dirty. Clean with methylated spirits very gently if you have to.

Hope this helps.

My cannon mx300 is giving me an alarm code 5100

5100 means either the carriage is not moving freely back and forth or there is grease or ink on the encoder strip. You can clean that clear plastic strip behind the carriage with a Q-tip, but also check on the right and left side for paper scraps stopping the carriage.

I'm setting up a PIXMA MX310 printer for the first time. After plugging it in and turning it on, it gives me a 5100 error.

I called 1-800-OK CANNON and got a great tech who figured out I'd neglected to take off some packing tape that was UNDER the LCD/control panel in the front—where the paper is loaded. Duh.
