With some computers the "WIRELESS ON/OFF SWITCH":
#1 must be turned ON,
#2 it can break, should be under warranty (I had this on twice!)
#3 not to be kidding but are you SURE there is one, Desktop computers don't come with Wi-Fi built in like contemp. laptops do.

My printer will not fax says not connected to network when it is.

faxing requires some type of Phone connection in most instances, network faxing is another set of drivers that need to run on your PC, the same as phone line faxing that utilizes your modem (as long as the modem is fax capable) the issue you have is the way it is set up. first off you have to have the communications between the printer and the computer running properly. If you do not have a router with a wifi connection and the printer is connecting directly to the computer wirelessly, you need to make sure it is set for peer to peer networking, if you have a true network using a router and wifi (more than one computer can connect to it, you need to make sure you are set for that. Remember, you are not faxing from the printer if it is not connected to a phone line, you are faxing from your computer. and you need to make sure you are running the correct type of fax software, for network faxing or dial up (phone line) faxing.

When you print out the activity report and under comment it says TX ECM what does that mean?

Transmission Error Correcting Mode was used. When the sending and receiving fax machines support this protocol, they are able to correct errors in transmission that occur. You can turn it off if it is causing you a problem, but it shouldn't be. It makes the determination about ECM capabilities during the initial synchronization. No positive response from the other and and ECM is not employed during the transmission.

Intermittently, the confirmation page on the fax says the fax failed (didn't go thru) but it actually did. Why is this? The confirmation page is printing false results, indicating the fax failed to go...

This is because some faxes don't have Error Correction Mode capabilities.

If there's a slight distortion on the line, the receiving machine (without ECM) receives a fax with some minor errors. And even though for a human eye the resulting fax page is perfectly readable, for the machine, that thinks only zeros and ones, there was an error detected in the data, and hence the trasmission failed.
Faxes with ECM when they detect an error, ask the sending fax to re-send the last portion of data, and this way can bring the transmission to a 100% successful end.

So the only thing you can do is ask your recipients to upgrade their fax machines to an ECM-capable model :)

How do you add Lan capability to machine?

1. pull side cover and establish that you have a pci slot free ( peripheral component interconnect ) which will be located at the bottom left hand on your motherboard and they are white in color .
2. if you have one free , go to a computer store and purchase a network card . they will come with a disk to which you install the driver from.
3.connect your category 5 cable and voila ....done
Hope this helps !
