There is a lock and there is a latch.
You can latch the safe without locking it and unlocking it does not unlatch it.

After you unlock it, then you must press up on the spring loaded latch while (this important) pressing down on the cover to releast the pressure on the latch hook, allowing it to move out of the way. After the latching hook is out of the way, you can release the pressure on the lid and it will open. You can't see the latch hook as it drops down from the lid, into the front wall of the safe where it engages a post, but perhaps you can imagine what it looks like.

Mine will not unlatch, even though it is unlocked, unless I press down on the lid to give it clearance first. There is quite a bit of spring in the plastic that this safe is constructed out of. It works against you when you try to open it and close it.

I can take digital photos of the mechanism if this description does not help.

SOURCE: know combination, but cannot open sentry safe 1250

Make sure you are working the dial properly for this type of safe. With the door lever fully counter clockwise, turn the dial clockwise a couple turns to start. It should turn quietly. Then turn the dial counterclockwise (LEFT) to the first number in the combination. Now turn the dial clockwise (RIGHT) a full turn passing the first number again, and additionally clockwise to the second number. Then turn the dial counter clockwise from the second number directly to the third number. Try to open with a sharp movement of the door lever clockwise. If this does not work the first time try adding or subtracting ONE to each number in the combination in case the mechanism is worn. If it still does not work it is time for a drill and a power saw to cut the thing open!

If you know the combination:

1) Turn the dial to the left a few complete rounds, then stop on 1st number.
2) Turning the dial to the right, pass up the 2nd number once, then stop on it on the next round.
3) Turn the dial to the left directly to the 3rd number then stop.

The handle should open now.

Safe(DSW3607). Battery is working but door won't open when combination is entered. It stuck in the past but I was able to open it eventually. Now it appears as though the handle will not turn all

Internal batter is low...look for two pin points on the outside of the combo and attatch a new battery temporairly then work combo. Insert new battery when you get it open. Hope this helps Ed

Lock on Sentry 2275 is broken

default_avatar.png If you can open the safe, unscrew the 2 screws on the inside of the plate covering the latch. The latch is only made of plastic and breaks easily. Once the plate is removed, you can put a screw in where the latch used to be, recover the latch with the faceplate and you should be able to use this again. Good luck!

Trunk won't open

The actuator may sound as though it is working but the latch could be damaged or misaligned. Also, the actuator could be too weak to operate the latch. If it is necessary to replace the actuator, your Camry is old enough to make a junkyard a likely source.

I have a Sentry safe and I do have the key but lost the combination...why won't the key work to open the safe?

Because you lost the combination of it, you can't use it with your keys alone.

I can't open my Sentry Safe (model #2100)

The problem is in the latch so one solution is to sit on the box, squeeze the latch and it opens. Voila!! Stupid R&D!

I just bought a new Sentry Safe Model H4300 and I can't get it open. Dumbest thing I ever bought. Can you help

The latching mechanism looks like a hook. Either the hinges were installed from the factory mis-aligned, or the latching mechanism needs adjustment.
If you need to, stand on it and get the safe open.
Once it is open look for some screws or bolts at the latch striker that will allow you to make adjustments.
Move it further away from the "hook" to make it easier to unlock.
It should not be as difficult as you describe. You should not need to press down when locking or unlocking. There is an alignment problem somewhere.

If it is brand new - you should be able to return it for a working unit.

I have a Sentry Safe H4300. I put a few important papers in it, but am unable to open it again to put more papers in it. Please Help! Thank you. Ruth Jackson

I have a H4300 Safe. To open the safe...

1) Unlock it with the tubular key
2) With one hand, push down on the lid (moderate pressure should do & preferably close to the latch area).
3) While still pushing down with one hand, use the other hand to squeeze the red latch button and lift up.

You can't open the lid by just squeezing the red latch button and trying to lift up. It won't. You need to push down, then unlatch, then lift.

Works everytime for me,...hope this helps.

I can't seem to unlock my safe Sentry 1250.

Locksmiths agree sometimes even with the green light the safe’s batteries are not strong enough to retract the latch. Try replacing them with some new alkaline batteries
